Château La Fleur de Gay 2010

Seductive and floral in style, with smooth, polished tannins and a fresh finish that is unfortunately a bit burning.

A pretty, elegant wine that is 100% Merlot but a very limited production (around 700–800 cases in most years), the 2010 displays good integration of oak and mulberry, plum and black raspberry fruit intermixed with some licorice, underbrush, vanillin and spice box. This is a voluptuously textured, round, seductive style of Pomerol to drink over the next 12–15 years.

This is on a different pitch, with intensely aromatic blueberry, loganberry and blackberry fruit flavors laced with mouthwatering charcoal and graphite notes. Gorgeous ganache and black tea accents fill in the finish, while allspice and singed alder take over on the aftertaste. Shows serious cut and drive. Best from 2016 through 2026. 750 cases made.

Coffee, cranberries, crushed juniper and plums. Full and with chewy tannins on the palate. It’s juicy and intense with a lovely depth of fruit and an intense finish. So good already. Try from 2017.

Sweet and perfumed – a bit tarty. Thick and sweet. Flattering but not noble. (JR)

Dried flowers, cherries, cocoa, and truffles, all wrapped up in silky textures with a chalky finish. Only 1,000 cases are produced from the estate’s oldest vines. This is their best vintage until 2022. Drink from 2023–2035.

Dark inky core. Modern roasted nose of new oak, espresso and dark berries. The palate is dense with a firm backbone, layers of blackberry and cassis flavours, rounded and opulent with a long finish.

Deep purple. Already on the nose, beautifully delicate, with a hint of cassis, a touch of vanilla, and a fine, even sweetness. On the palate, almost delicate and dancing, very well balanced. There are few rich 2010 Pomerols that come across with such elegance.

Roasted nose, lovely substance behind it with a very fine grain and just the right depth. A wine built for ageing.

Supple and round, easy, with a beautiful core, very suave.

Beautiful color. Discreet nose, then truffled. Soft palate, but a bit slack as often. Cherry flavor at the attack, then the oak takes over on the finish. The transition doesn’t come together well in the mid-palate. Normal length.
