    Decanter

A Cru Bourgeois Supérieur from Jean-François Delon, one of the few small family estates in St Julien. Strong blackberry and blackcurrant bud flavours with floral aromatics. This is unfussy, with fairly rustic tannins but absolutely delicious and juicy, with a lingering finish. One third new oak.

Dark, bright purple color. Very aromatic nose, fruity and refined. Palate marked by tactile elegance, with a fine touch and lingering fragrance. Medium power.

    Wine Enthusiast

    Roger Voss

Guy Delon, a member of the family that owns Léoville las Cases, is proprietor of this estate. This wine is ripe, smoothly textured with a velvet character as well as dense black fruits. It will age further, so drink from 2026.

    Description

The great complexity and delicacy of a Saint-Julien Classified Growth

    The estate
Château Moulin de La Rose owes its name to an 18th century mill on the site where the château is now located. Situated in the midst of the Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Julien, the Moulin de La Rose reveals one of the most beautiful expressions of this terroir.

    The vineyard
The 5 hectares of vineyard are planted in Garonne gravel. The vines are pruned as double guyot with meticulous tillage and manual leaf stripping.

    The vintage
The start of the season was cool and humid, followed by an extremely hot summer period. The vines adapted beautifully to the climatic conditions of the year, yielding perfectly ripe grapes

    The winemaking and ageing
Following the manual harvests on September 4, 5 and September 20, the grapes were brought back to the winery. Sorting in the vineyard, vinification in thermoregulated stainless steel vats and vatting for 3 weeks. The wine was then aged in barrels (30% new).

    Tasting
Revealing a deep, bright purple colour in the glass, the Château Moulin de la Rose 2019 shows promise of a brilliant wine. The nose is dominated by notes of blackcurrant and roasted cocoa beans evolving into floral touches of violet and blackberry. On the palate, the Château Moulin de la Rose 2019 expresses itself with a great balance between freshness and delicacy. The powerful structure gives Château Moulin de la Rose 2019 a nice length on the finish.
