    Decanter

From the driest vintage on record, this is a fragrant, juicy wine, with aromas of grapefruit, sweet lime and jalapeño leading to a fine-textured palate with bright citrus fruit, fresh herbs and a touch of tomato stalk. Vibrant acidity drives a stony, dry finish with decent length.

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc has an addition to its label—the 40th vintage. Yes, it’s been 40 years since the first Cloudy Bay Sauvignon burst onto the scene. Now, it’s a much bigger operation covering more than 400 hectares, yet it still maintains its exclusivity. This sweetly fruited expression offers all that juicy tropical flavor we’ve come to expect from Marlborough, with layers of green capsicum and elderflower coursing through the mid-palate. It is silky and balanced, with succulent flesh built through its core and a line of fresh, drawn-out acidity keeping this going on the medium-length finish.

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc marks the 40th vintage for this estate in Marlborough, and the wine leads with green apple, a salsa verde-esque note (think green chilli, coriander, lime, etc.) and white pineapple. In the mouth, the wine is punchy and crunchy, with loads of acid, but there is also attractive, chalky texture on the mid-palate. It's a smart wine, as usual. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

A New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that is both fresh, vibrant and expressive

    The estate

Founded in 1985 by David Hohnen, the estate Cloudy Bay is located in Marlborough, one of New Zealand’s finest wine regions, between the Pacific Ocean and the Richmond Range mountains. Situated at the entrance to the eponymous bay, this pioneering estate was one of the first to exploit Marlborough’s terroir. Today, it cultivates over 310 hectares of vines. Committed to sustainability, Cloudy Bay applies environmentally friendly practices at every stage, from the vineyard to the cellar. Over three decades, it has established itself as one of the flagship names of New World great wines.

    The vineyard

This Sauvignon Blanc comes from vines planted in the renowned Wairau Valley, in the heart of Marlborough. The gravelly and stony soils combined with a dry, sunny climate create ideal conditions for producing pure white wines from New Zealand with remarkable aromatic expression.

    Winemaking and ageing

Fermentation takes place mainly in stainless steel tanks, with a small portion (5%) in oak barrels. To preserve the identity of the terroir, part of the fermentation of this Marlborough wine was carried out using indigenous yeasts.
