Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos" 2024 from Domaine Laroche
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a bright, pale yellow hue that will develop delicate golden highlights over the years.
Nose
Initially reserved, the bouquet opens with aromas of citrus, green apple, pear and white flowers. With aeration, it gains depth and reveals a complex minerality marked by notes of wet chalk, oyster shell, flint and subtle smoky touches.
Palate
The attack is lively and linear, driven by fine acidic tension. The palate is dense, concentrated and mouthwatering, with no heaviness whatsoever. It all culminates in a remarkably long finish, dominated by intense salinity and minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine pairs perfectly with noble shellfish such as lobster, king crab or scallops. It also elevates richer fish served with a creamy sauce, refined white meats such as veal escalope with mushrooms, and long-aged hard cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
This Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos" 2024 is built for very long ageing. Often reserved in its youth, it will require patience to fully blossom and reveal the full extent of its tertiary complexity.
The mineral, refined expression of a great Chablis terroir
The estate
Founded in 1850, Domaine Laroche is a leading name in Burgundy. Although the family's roots date back to the 17th century, the estate has modernised and now spans 90 hectares of vines. Owned by the AdVini group since the late 2000s, it is currently run by Antoine Leccia and Jean-Baptiste Mouton. Housed in the historic 9th-century Obédiencerie, the estate stands out for its pioneering, HVE 3-certified agro-ecological approach, which combines respect for biodiversity, the elimination of herbicides and the use of biocontrol to bring out the best in its terroirs.
The vineyard
The "Les Clos" climat is the largest and one of the most renowned of the Chablis Grands Crus. The estate farms just over one hectare here, on a hillside ideally facing south and south-west. The Kimmeridgian soils, rich in marine fossils, range from very stony, free-draining ground at the top of the slope to deeper, clay-rich soils at the bottom. This historic terroir, where monks were already planting vines in the 9th century, enjoys optimal sunshine, which ensures perfect ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
The year was marked by capricious weather, with episodes of hail and heavy mildew pressure. These challenges resulted in particularly modest yields. Nevertheless, this demanding growing season produced highly concentrated berries, offering a harmonious balance between slightly sun-kissed ripeness and great freshness.
Vinification and ageing
In the cellar, the philosophy is based on minimal intervention to preserve the identity of the terroir. Fermentation of this Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos" 2024 begins naturally with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged mainly in barrels, with a very limited proportion of new oak. This approach imparts a light patina and controlled oxygenation without ever masking the mineral purity and natural acidity of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
