Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Pinot Gris "Heimbourg" 2022 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht
Tasting
Colour
This white wine reveals an intense yellow colour, enlivened by beautiful, brilliant highlights.
Nose
The nose is initially rather discreet, before gradually opening up to notes of delicate white fruit, led by pear and peach, accompanied by smoky nuances and light waxy touches.
Palate
The attack is straightforward and very dry, yet the velvety texture brings a welcome roundness to the mid-palate. The mouthwatering acidity energises the whole and leads to a finish of medium length, carried by a fine, elegant structure.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Pinot Gris "Heimbourg" 2022 will pair ideally with noble-textured fish, roasted or pan-fried, as well as with shellfish and crustaceans delicately prepared. It is also very much at ease with roast poultry or white meats served with creamy or mushroom sauces. Enthusiasts may also like to try it with delicately spiced cuisines, particularly Asian, as well as with semi-hard to hard cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
The wines of Heimbourg, aged for a long time on the lees, can appear slightly closed at bottling: it is therefore advisable to decant the Pinot Gris "Heimbourg" 2022 so that it can fully reveal its aromatic potential.
A dry Alsatian Pinot Gris driven by the freshness of its limestone terroir
The Estate
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht was born in 1959 from the union of the Humbrecht and Zind families in Turckheim, Alsace. Today run by Olivier and Margaret Humbrecht, joined since 2019 by their son Pierre Emile, the estate extends over 42 hectares spread across several grands crus and remarkable lieux-dits. A pioneer of biodynamics in the region since the 1990s, it favours a demanding terroir-driven approach, with cuvées vinified plot by plot to express as closely as possible the personality of each Alsatian soil.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the Heimbourg lieu-dit in Turckheim, in Alsace. This steeply sloping hillside, facing south to west, rests on a clay-limestone substrate where a conglomerate of iron-rich red limestone outcrops. The Pinot Gris is planted on the upper part, which is poorer and more exposed to the wind, favouring slow ripening and good retention of acidity. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles.
Vinification and Ageing
The Pinot Gris "Heimbourg" 2022 results from a slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts, carried through to the complete exhaustion of the sugars, in a deliberately dry style. The wine is then aged on the lees for several months in large oak foudres, which gives it its ample texture and gradual complexity.

This wine is made from Pinot Gris.
