Description
A lively and aromatic white wine from Loire
The estate
Founded in 1310, the family estate is a pillar of Chavignol in the heart of the Loire. Gérard Boulay, supported by his son Thibaut, perpetuates a centuries-old viticultural tradition on 14 hectares of prestigious terroirs such as the Monts Damnés. Since 1990, the estate has been practicing organic farming, enhancing old vines and minimalist winemaking. This artisanal approach, without new barrels, highlights the minerality and complexity of the Kimmeridgian soils, making their wines an essential reference.
The vineyard
The "Tradition" cuvée comes from a blend of several plots in the village of Chavignol, located on different Sancerre terroirs: the chalky limestones of Bourges (called griottes), the limestones of Buzançais and the marls of Saint-Doulchard (Kimmeridgian). These soils, rich in fossils, notably corals, bear witness to ancient shallow seas. The "caillottes" refer to the upper layered limestones and those of Buzançais, formed between the end of the Oxfordian and the beginning of the Kimmeridgian.
Grape variety
This Tradition Blanc 2024 from Gérard Boulay is a 100% sauvignon blanc.
