A smoky, toasted note on the nose brings complexity; it's a pity the palate doesn’t have the same energy as les-clos, even though the finish is nicely tight. Some air does it good.

The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses has a rather smudged bouquet that does not really articulate the terroir of Les Preuses. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely balanced, the acidity just a little low although there is commendable harmony on the finish. There is an easy-drinking aspect to this Grand Cru that slips down the throat with ease, without tackling the intellect.

A white wine from La Chablisienne with a fresh finish

Les Preuses from La Chablisienne is a single-varietal Chardonnay made from vines averaging 30 years of age in the Chablis Grand Cru appellation. The vines benefit from a terroir of Middle and Upper Kimmeridgian soils, with alternating limestone and Exogyra virgula marl. The wine is aged on fine lees for 20 months in both vats and barrels.

On tasting, the Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 2013 from La Chablisienne reveals a silvery yellow colour with subtle greenish highlights, clear and brilliant. Very complex from the outset, the nose offers harmonious aromas of white flowers, fruit and sweet spices, along with a light yet elegant touch of oak. The palate shows a lovely sappiness; the wine is dense and superbly balanced. Showing great freshness, Les Preuses from La Chablisienne reveals delicious hints of white orchard fruit on the finish.
