    Vinum

No Camensac this year due to frost, but instead this excellent second wine from the Grand Vin vines that survived the frost, making it a genuine price-and-pleasure bargain: full-bodied, smooth, juicy, with a compact finish that shows hardly any hardness.

    James Suckling

A fresh red with plum and currant character, as well as crushed stones, following through to a medium body, firm tannins and a crisp finish. Second wine of Château Camensac. Better after 2020.

    Description

The finesse of a full-bodied and delicious Haut-Médoc wine

    The estate

The property of the Merlaut family since 2005, Château de Camensac is an estate built in the 18th century in the Haut-Médoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. This 1855 5th Grand Cru Classé has undergone major investments, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, which have enabled the estate to equip itself with the tools it needs. Château de Camensac now stands out as an essential name among the great wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.

    The vineyard

An unmissable reference among Haut-Médoc wines, the Château de Camensac vineyard stretches across 86 hectares on two different types of soil: the Günzian gravel found in Saint-Julien and the Villefranchian gravel found in Pessac-Léognan. It is these two types of soil that gives the estate's wines their unique quality.

    The wine

La Closerie de Camensac is Château de Camensac’s Second Wine.

    The vintage

The frost that hit the Bordeaux vineyards at the end of April did not spare Château de Camensac. However, hard work carried out in the vineyard led to a harvest of perfectly ripe grapes.

Characteristics and tasting tips for La Closerie de Camensac 2017

    Tasting

    Colour
The wine is of a beautiful ruby colour.

    Nose
The nose opens on light woody and vanilla notes which gradually make way for gourmet chocolatey notes balanced by a lovely freshness.

    Palate
The frankness of the attack makes way immediately for the elegance and finesse of the tannic structure. The tight framework appears in the full-bodied palate, drawing out to a lengthy finish highlighted by delicious chocolatey notes.

    To serve

For the best tasting, open the bottle one hour beforehand.

    Storage
