A Rioja Gran Reserva with complex aromatics and balanced structure

    The estate

La Rioja Alta, founded in 1890 by five winegrowing families, remains a family-owned estate to this day. This bodega stands out for its in-house cooperage and extended oak aging for its crianza, reserva, and gran reserva cuvées.

    The vineyard

The grapes come from the El Palo and Las Monjas vineyards located in Rodezno in Rioja. These plots, planted in 1973, lie on silty soils and are farmed using sustainable viticulture with a focus on low yields per hectare.

    The vintage

The 2008 vintage was marked by moderate yields but high quality, with favorable weather conditions during the final stage of ripening. The grapes were harvested in optimal conditions, showing a perfect balance between color, acidity, and alcohol.

    Winemaking and aging

Alcoholic fermentation of Viña Arana Gran Reserva 2008 took place over 14 days at controlled temperature, followed by a natural malolactic fermentation lasting 65 days. Aging was carried out for 3 years in American oak barrels made on site, with an average age of 3.5 years. Six traditional rackings from barrel to barrel were performed every 6 months before bottling in July 2012.

    Grape varieties

This wine is composed of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo.
