2025 En Primeur in the Loire: a focus on each region
The Pays Nantais: Melon de Bourgogne at its finest expression
In the Nantes vineyards, Melon de Bourgogne weathered the summer of 2025 with remarkable resilience. Spared by disease and harvested in exemplary sanitary condition from 22 August onwards, the grape variety yielded musts of rare purity: a blend of vibrant freshness, saline tension and aromatic purity.
Anjou-Saumur: a dense and promising vintage
Anjou and the Saumur area broke a precocity record in 2025: harvesting began as early as 18 August, a first in the region's history. Across all styles (sparkling, rosé, red and white), the wines displayed beautiful ripeness and above-average potential alcohol. A dense and balanced vintage.
For the white Chenins, whether from appellations such as Savennières, Coteaux du Layon or Quarts de Chaume, the quality of the musts has been unanimously praised. The full ripeness of the grape variety, combined with preserved acidity, opens up appealing ageing prospects.
Saumur-Champigny, for its part, offers particularly expressive Cabernet Francs: ripe red fruits, supple yet genuine structure, and a persistent finish.
Touraine: aromatic generosity and precision
In Touraine, the 2025 vintage combines precision and aromatic generosity. The harvest, which began early under sustained sunshine, produced grapes whose aromatic richness has been widely acclaimed. Cabernet Franc here expresses notes of ripe and black fruits with beautiful roundness on the palate.
Vouvray benefits from a sun-drenched vintage that gives the cuvées assertive ripeness without sacrificing their signature tension. The early harvest in Touraine lends its sparkling wines remarkable freshness and beautiful aromatic expressiveness.
In Chinon, as well as in Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, alcohol levels range between 12 and 14°, with generously fruity substance and polished tannins. Wines that are approachable in their youth, yet endowed with definite ageing potential.
Centre-Loire: characterful whites and exceptional reds
For the Centre-Loire appellations (Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Menetou-Salon, Reuilly, Quincy), the 2025 vintage holds a clear promise: Sauvignon Blancs of striking aromatic expression (juicy white fruits, vivid citrus and a subtle hint of flint), supported by a fresh and crisp palate where the natural acidity, remarkably preserved despite the rigours of the summer heat, brings tension and length.
The Pinot Noirs of Sancerre, Menetou-Salon and Reuilly are generating particular enthusiasm. Their long phenolic ripening has allowed for a fine synthesis of colouring matter, silky tannins and beautiful hold on the palate. "An exceptional vintage for the reds", according to the BIVC.
The only shadow on the picture: the hailstorm of 23 July in the Sancerre appellation affected 20% of the vineyards and part of the Coteaux-du-Giennois.
2024 En Primeur wines from the Loire: a year of climatic challenges
2024, a vintage shaped by fickle weather
The 2024 vintage in the Loire Valley was marked by demanding climatic conditions. A mild winter led to a very early budburst, followed by late frosts and hailstorms, particularly in Sancerre.
The exceptional spring rainfall resulted in significant mildew pressure, severely impacting yields. While a summer clearing allowed véraison to begin, the September rains slightly slowed ripening. Nevertheless, as harvest approached, the berries revealed beautiful aromatic potential.
The harvest: between challenges and beautiful aromatic potential
The 2024 harvest in the Loire Valley took place in a complex climatic context, marked by unstable weather, heavy rainfall, low sunshine and high phytosanitary pressure.
Winegrowers had to demonstrate reactivity and rigour, multiplying the number of passes through the vines and plot-by-plot sorting (sometimes up to three sortings for the dry whites) in order to harvest at optimum ripeness.
The harvest, later than in previous years, began in mid-September and stretched over several weeks due to the unevenness of ripeness across grape varieties, terroirs and sectors. Fragmented and lengthy, the picking required precise monitoring, essential to offset the widespread drop in yields.
