Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Les Quatre Journaux" 2022 by Louis Latour
Tasting
Appearance
The color, dark and deep, stands out with subtle ruby highlights.
Nose
The nose is intense, revealing aromas of blackcurrant bud, cherry, and a hint of pepper.
Palate
Full-bodied and elegant, the palate unveils blackcurrant flavors, extended by notes of licorice. The tannins, of great finesse, accompany a finish that is both persistent and ethereal.
Food & wine pairing
This great red wine from Burgundy pairs perfectly with hare à la royale, duck parmentier with truffles, or Cîteaux cheese from Burgundy.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal tasting, serve between 16 and 17°C. This wine can be cellared until around 2057.
A silky Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru wine with beautiful aromatic purity
The estate
Founded in 1797, Maison Louis Latour is now represented by the 11th generation, headed by Louis-Fabrice Latour. As a négociant-éleveur, Maison Louis Latour owns the largest Grand Cru estate in Burgundy.
The vineyard
Located southwest of Romanée-Saint-Vivant, the "Les Quatre Journaux" plot benefits from superb exposure. Owner of part of this terroir since 1898, the Latour family now owns a 0.8-hectare vineyard producing a great Romanée-Saint-Vivant wine. The "Les Quatre Journaux" plot takes its name from the old Burgundian measure, a "Journal" corresponding to about 0.40 hectares. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are planted on ferruginous clay soils.
Winemaking and aging
The hand-harvested grapes undergo traditional fermentation in open vats. Complete malolactic fermentation. Aging lasts 10 to 12 months in new French oak barrels from Maison Louis Latour's own cooperage.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
