The property

Founded in the early 19th century by the Falletti family, Marchesi di Barolo is an emblematic estate of Piedmont, located in the Barolo region. Today led by the Abbona family, the estate extends over 120 hectares, including prestigious crus like Cannubi. Traditional methods, such as aging in large oak barrels, are combined with a modern and sustainable approach. The recent acquisitions of Cascina Bruciata and Cascina Colombera testify to their commitment to viticultural excellence.

The vineyard

This Barolo wine comes from vineyards located in the municipality of Barolo, at the heart of the appellation. The vines are planted on soils rich in clay and limestone, known locally as "Terre Bianche". This particular composition gives the wine its characteristic structure and exceptional aging potential, while providing a distinctive minerality that makes the reputation of great Barolo.

The vintage

1958 is considered an exceptional vintage for Barolo. Favorable weather conditions allowed optimal development of the grapes, with a hot and dry summer followed by windy days, cool nights, and low humidity during the harvest. The limited production, not exceeding two-thirds of its potential, contributed to the concentration and exceptional quality of the grapes harvested that year.

Vinification and aging

For this Riserva 1958, the grapes were manually harvested then delicately destemmed and lightly crushed. Fermentation took place in vitrified cement tanks with indigenous yeasts and natural temperature variations. Pump-overs and the traditional "follatura" technique were used during fermentation, followed by a post-fermentation maceration of about two months. After malolactic fermentation, also carried out in vitrified cement tanks, the wine was aged in traditional large oak barrels before being bottled in 1965. The original cork was replaced in 1997.

Blend

100% nebbiolo, an emblematic grape variety of Piedmont, recognized for its ability to produce structured and complex wines with great aging potential.
