Characteristics and tasting advice for Mélanie Pfister’s Pinot Gris "Silb" 2018

    Tasting

    Appearance
Displaying a beautiful golden yellow hue, this Pinot Gris reveals a bright, warm color, indicative of its maturity and richness.

    Nose
The bouquet unfolds around elegant autumn fruits—ripe pear and quince—enhanced by a delicate touch of oak that adds depth and complexity without ever overpowering the whole.

    Palate
On the palate, the wine opens with natural smoothness and impressive power. A mineral tension brings structure and balance, while the long, mouthwatering finish highlights the outstanding quality of this vintage.

    Food and wine pairings
This dry Pinot Gris pairs elegantly with poultry and white meats, whether roasted or served with sauce. It also complements beautifully flaky pastries filled with meat or mushrooms.

    Serving and cellaring
Mélanie Pfister’s Pinot Gris "Silb" 2018 can be cellared until around 2028.

An exceptional Alsace Pinot Gris combining power and minerality

    The estate

Founded in 1780 in Dahlenheim, in the Bas-Rhin, the family estate is now managed by Mélanie Pfister, the eighth generation of this Alsatian winegrowing family and the first woman to lead it. This family-run estate covers 11 hectares spread across 40 plots. Certified organic since 2021 and currently converting to biodynamic practices, the estate combines environmental respect with a commitment to quality. Trained in particular at Château Cheval Blanc, Mélanie Pfister expresses a sincere attachment to Alsatian terroirs through her wines.
    The vineyard

Perched on a limestone plateau overlooking the village of Dahlenheim in Alsace, the Silberberg lieu-dit—whose name evokes the “Silver Mountain”—enjoys a privileged geographical setting. Its clay-limestone soils provide Pinot Gris with an ideal environment to express its natural richness, while imparting the characteristic mineral tension of this exceptional terroir. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand.

    Winemaking and aging

The Pinot Gris "Silb" 2018 comes from a manual harvest carried out on September 13, 2018. The wine was then fermented and aged in 228- and 300-liter French oak barrels, using previously used wood, allowing for harmonious oak integration while preserving the authentic expression of the terroir. Bottling took place in May 2020, after approximately twenty months of aging.
    Grape variety

This wine is made from 100% Pinot Gris.
