    Description

The refinement and indulgence of a Piedmont wine signed Michele Chiarlo

    The property

The fame of the eponymous estate Michele Chiarlo has been written since 1956, when this oenologist decided to create his own estate and produce great wines from Piedmont.

His ambition? To enhance the terroirs and grape varieties of Piedmont and reveal their unique personality through a constant quest for excellence and custom-made vinification.

Located in the village of Calamandrana, within the Barolo appellation, the Michele Chiarlo estate produces wines recognized for their inimitable style, harmoniously combining aromatic complexity with supple and silky tannins.

    The vineyard

The Michele Chiarlo estate watches over a mosaic of vineyards spread over 110 hectares, constituting a real treasure of the Langhe, in the north of Italy.

    The wine

This Barolo Cannubi by Michele Chiarlo has been produced since 1990 from a vineyard of about one hectare. Listed since 1752, Cannubi is the oldest Italian Cru, whose altitude, exposure, soils and climate are optimal conditions for producing emblematic wines. This south-southwest facing terroir is planted on a soil composed of limestone marls and sand, rich in iron and magnesium.

    The vintage

2017 is marked by a hot and dry summer. Cultural practices close to the needs of the vineyard, such as late leaf thinning or early harvests, have preserved the freshness of the grapes as well as the climatic and organoleptic characteristics of a great vintage.

    Vinification and aging

The manually harvested grapes undergo fermentation in 55 hl oak vats as well as a fermentation lasting 20 days. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in vats. This wine benefits from a minimum aging of 3 years, including 2 years in medium-sized oak barrels and additional aging in the bottle before marketing.

    Blend

    100% nebbiolo.
