An Islay single malt combining power and refinement
Octomore: the most heavily peated Islay whisky in the world
Created in 2002 by master distiller Jim McEwan and Mark Reynier, Octomore is a revolutionary Islay whisky produced at the Bruichladdich distillery, now owned by Rémy Cointreau. Named after a historic farm that housed a distillery from 1816 to 1852, Octomore holds the title of the most heavily peated whisky in the world, reaching up to 307.2 ppm of phenols. Representing only 10% of Bruichladdich’s annual production, this single malt uses exclusively barley grown at the Octomore farm, ensuring full traceability. Bottled at cask strength at five years old, it paradoxically reveals fruity and floral notes despite its extreme peat.
Octomore Edition 15.3: the second most heavily peated edition in the range
Octomore Edition 15.3 pushes the limits of peat with its 307.2 PPM of phenols, setting a new record as the second most heavily peated edition ever produced by Bruichladdich. This expression uses exclusively 100% Islay barley, grown at the Octomore farm located in the immediate vicinity of the distillery, ensuring complete traceability and an absolute sense of place.
The aging of Edition 15.3 takes place in a combination of Bourbon barrels and Spanish Oloroso casks, adding an extra dimension of complexity to the whisky’s profile. This double maturation balances the phenomenal intensity of the peat with notes of ripe fruit, creating the “impossible equation” that has defined the Octomore range since 2008: combining extreme peat with surprising elegance. Bottled straight from the cask at 61.3% ABV, this Scotch whisky single malt embodies Bruichladdich’s bold philosophy of distillation.
