The 2019 Ried Loibenberg Riesling is deep, intense and precise and has darker tones on the flinty and spicy nose that shows perfectly ripe but still fresh fruit intertwined with stony aromas. Full-bodied, dense and intense on the palate, this is a concentrated yet also minerally structured and vital Loibenberg with phenolic grip on the finish that is currently challenging but will fade over the years in the bottle. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in June 2021.

The peach, mango and papaya aromas pour from the glass, but the smoky note beautifully counterpoints this rich, concentrated dry riesling that has wonderful succulence wrapped around the excellent structure. Lavish yet precise finish. Drink or hold.

    Description

A mineral and aromatic great Austrian wine

    The estate

When Elizabeth Pichler-Krutzler and Erich Krutzler founded the Pichler-Krutzler estate in 2006, these two wine lovers set out to produce unique wines with great character, based on the principles of sustainable viticulture. The challenge has been met, as Pichler-Krutzler wines reflect both the great expertise of the winery and the exceptional terroir of the Wachau. A striking geology and climate and the estate owners’ passion and respect for their vines together result in great Austrian wines - a pure expression of nature.

    The vineyard

This Riesling Ried Loibenberg is a Wachau wine that benefits from a soil dominated by quartz and mica, where vines aged between 37 and 52 years old are rooted.

    Winemaking and ageing

The harvest took place at the end of October and only the best grapes were carefully selected by hand. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats where the wine aged for 8 months on its lees until bottling in late summer.
