Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Curtimenta 2019 by Anselmo Mendes
Tasting
Nose
The bouquet reveals a beautiful aromatic expression with notes of white flowers and inviting fruity aromas. Delicate floral nuances are accompanied by mineral hints characteristic of Alvarinho.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals a full-bodied and mineral structure, subtly smoky. The skin maceration provides a fine and delicate texture, while the oak enhances the fruit without dominating it. The pure character of the Alvarinho comes fully into its own in this serious wine with excellent ageing potential.
Food and Wine Pairing
The Curtimenta 2019 pairs perfectly with white meats, fine fish and shellfish. Its structure and minerality make it an ideal companion for refined preparations.
Serving and Storage
This Portuguese wine is ideally served at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. The Curtimenta 2019 can be enjoyed now, but has an ageing potential until around 2035.

The Producer
Founded in 1998 by Anselmo Mendes in the Minho region, this estate spans 130 hectares of Alvarinho and Loureiro in the Monção e Melgaço zone. Known as "Mr. Alvarinho", Anselmo Mendes, owner and current managing director, revolutionised Vinho Verde by championing dry and mineral wines. A pioneer of sustainable winegrowing, he combines traditional techniques with innovative methods such as skin maceration and ageing in oak barrels, and entered into a partnership with the Symington family in 2023.
The Wine Region
The Curtimenta vines are planted in the sub-region of Monção & Melgaço at the heart of the DO Vinho Verde appellation. At an altitude of 100 to 200 metres, they benefit from an oceanic climate with 1,600 mm of rainfall per year. Vines over 14 years old thrive on alluvial and granitic soils.
Vinification and Ageing
The Curtimenta 2019 benefits from careful vinification beginning with hand harvesting. After destemming, the grapes undergo a 24-hour skin maceration before fermentation takes place in 400-litre barrels with indigenous yeasts. This wine from Minho is then aged for nine months on the fine lees in barrels with regular bâtonnage, followed by a further twelve months in bottle.
Grape Variety
100% Alvarinho, the defining grape variety of the Monção & Melgaço region.
