Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru "Pierre & Louis Trapet" 2023
Tasting
Colour
This red wine reveals a deep ruby hue, with violet highlights in its youth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of ripe black fruit, such as blackberry and blackcurrant. Delicate floral touches reminiscent of peony and faded rose intertwine with subtle nuances of undergrowth and sweet spices.
Palate
The palate offers a silky, velvety texture, supported by exceptionally fine tannins. Balance comes from a lovely freshness that carries the wine through to a mouth-watering finish, marked by a return of fruit and a hint of minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with delicate red meats such as sirloin or rib-eye steak, as well as white meats like roast veal. It also enhances fine poultry, mushroom dishes and Burgundian washed-rind cheeses such as Époisses.
Serving and cellaring
The Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru "Pierre & Louis Trapet" 2023 has fine ageing potential. It can be cellared and will develop gracefully over a period of approximately 8 to 15 years.
The elegance of a great Pinot Noir in the heart of the Côte de Beaune
The estate
Founded around 1870 by Louis Trapet, Domaine Trapet is a historic name in Burgundy, originally based in Gevrey-Chambertin. Now run by Jean-Louis Trapet, alongside his wife Andrée and their sons Pierre and Louis, the estate covers 15 to 16 hectares in Burgundy and 15 hectares in Alsace. A pioneer of environmentally friendly practices, the domaine has been certified biodynamic since 1998. It stands out for its commitment to letting the purity of its terroirs shine through, thanks to demanding, minimal-intervention viticulture.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the terroir of Auxey-Duresses spreads across steep slopes beneath the Montagne du Châtelet. The Premier Cru plots, notably the "Écussaux" and "Grands Champs" climats, lie on deep clay soils. The vines, more than fifty years old, are farmed rigorously according to biodynamic principles, with mechanical soil cultivation and meticulous canopy management to ensure the vitality of the vines and the quality of the grapes.
Winemaking and ageing
To produce the Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru "Pierre & Louis Trapet" 2023, the grapes are harvested by hand. A cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes fermentation in vats under precise temperature control, accompanied by gentle punching down and pumping over. A proportion of whole bunches is retained to add structure. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for twelve to eighteen months, with a moderate proportion of new oak, before being bottled without heavy filtration.
