Blason de l'Evangile 2020

Delicate, floral nose. Smooth and succulent, really quite clean and crisp on the palate. There’s a bit of dryness that arrives fairly quickly, then minerality and a salty tang followed by crisp blueberries and black cherries. Deep and dark in profile, with liquorice and clove reminding you this is still quite young and relatively potent. Structured, fresh and concentrated, with a touch of heat on the finish. Mouthwatering, quality fruit, and a polished feel.

A beautiful second wine with black olives, tapenade, black berries, plums and chocolate. Medium to full body. Lovely fruit and spice. So complex and complete. Shows purity and excellence. A step up for this wine. 25% in concrete. Drink or hold.

The 2020 Blason de l'Évangile represents around half the volume this year, mostly from younger vines and as a result of parcel selection. It matured in used barrel and 5–6% in amphora. It has a pretty nose with black cherries, flint, and light blood-orange scents. Well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft, supple entry, velvety smooth, with a subtle marine/seaweed influence toward the finish. A capable second wine.

Both wines from L'Evangile showed beautifully. The 2020 Blason De L'Evangile is a more forward wine, offering terrific plum and darker berry fruits as well as classic Pomerol gravelly earth, chocolate, and leafy tobacco aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, it's as seamless as they come, with terrific balance and supple tannins. It will drink brilliantly for 15 years. The blend is 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc, brought up mostly in once-used barrels with 15% in tank.

A blend of 87% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 Blason de L'Evangile is deep garnet-purple in color. It skips out of the glass with exuberant notes of chocolate-covered cherries, baked plums, and boysenberries, leading to suggestions of Indian spices, licorice, and dusty soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and juicy with plenty of expressive black fruits and just enough acidity, finishing long.

An alluring bouquet of purple fruits, very calm and soothing, with a vein of freshness. On the palate, very fresh, precise small red fruits and a fruity, indulgent, crunchy finish with a hint of mocha.

Blason d’Evangile reveals a good fruit intensity right from the start, complemented by spicy notes. Delightful and slightly creamy on the palate, the wine is already very inviting while offering a fine-grained tannic structure that provides solid palate support. A gourmand wine that can already be enjoyed in its youth.

The nose is fruity, showing lovely ripeness with a tangy edge. There are notes of boysenberry, juicy, pulpy wild black fruits and, more lightly, crushed redcurrant, joined by a touch of pulpy wild strawberry, along with hints of mineral gravel and graphite. There is a faint, almost ashy note. A discreet hint of Sichuan pepper and violet also appears. The palate is fruity, with juiciness and a refined, lively acidity. There is minerality, smoothness, and a fine, elegant fleshiness. Power is delivered with delicacy and a sun-kissed feel, revealing notes of juicy, pulpy blackberry, vivid wild blackcurrant, and, more lightly, spices and fresh tobacco, as well as hints of tangy wild red berries, notes of blueberry, licorice, and toasted hazelnut. A subtle note of violet and vanilla is also perceptible. In the background, small roasted fruits emerge, with a delicate chocolatey softness on the long, persistent finish.

In this ripe wine, softness masks some firmer tannins. This second wine has a juicy character that also gives spicy density. It is full and rich, concentrating the black fruits. Drink from 2026.
