Description
The freshness and refinement of a Saint-Émilion wine
The estate
A Premier Grand Cru Classé B, Château Beau-Séjour Bécot shines across the Saint-Émilion appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank.
The vineyard
Saint-Émilion wine Château Beau-Séjour Bécot comes from a 17-hectare vineyard. Averaging 34 years of age, the vines are planted on the clay-limestone soils of the western plateau of the appellation.
The vineyard is composed of Merlot (76%), Cabernet Franc (22%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).
The wine
This Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 2022 ranked 5th in Wine Spectator’s Top 100, 2025 edition.
The vintage
A particularly mild, dry winter led to an early budbreak. Mild and wet, the spring was marked by a few frost episodes that did not impact the vineyard. Flowering was uniform. Despite the summer drought, the vines drew the necessary reserves from their roots and the clay-limestone soils to limit water stress. Rainfall from mid-August proved lifesaving, ensuring a gradual and optimal ripening of the berries. Despite small berries and low yields, quality was achieved.
Winemaking and aging
Manual, intra-plot harvesting is followed by destemming and manual sorting. Plot-by-plot vinification. Temperature-controlled vatting. Traditional alcoholic fermentation in inverted truncated-cone vats. 33 days of maceration on skins. Gentle, infusion-style extraction. Maceration protected from air. The wine is aged for 16 months in barrels (55% new, 25% one-wine) as well as in amphorae and 20 hl foudres (25%).
