Falstaff

Falstaff

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Ripe cherry fruit, a hint of cassis and blackberry confit, fine oak spice, in the background some candied orange zest. Deep with dark cherries, hints of plums, ripe, firm tannins, dark nougat and Petit Verdot savouriness, mineral, fresh with a salty finish, lingers long with good length and certain ageing potential.

Boyd-Cantenac remains true to itself and can take pride in its consistency. Inviting notes of fresh bread, toast and cocoa nibs lead into nuances of black berries and licorice. A subtle, smooth touch appears on the attack, ushering in a linear, flavorful wine, carried by tannins that provide vigour and structure, while the acidity brings zip and freshness. A delicious, sapid wine made to spend time in the cellar, yet equally enjoyable in its youth.

Vinum

A reductive nose with dark fruit, marzipan, black olives and toasted notes; a fruity opening, medium-bodied, slightly grainy tannins, good length and a drying finish. A somewhat rough-and-ready Margaux that wants a piece of meat by its side.

The 2023 Boyd-Cantenac has quite a concentrated nose, blackberry, melted tar and light gravely scents, just missing the delineation of its peers at the moment. The palate is soft and rounded on the entry. Decent weight, a little oaky, though I am seeking more complexity and terroir expression to come through on the finish that, again, is just a bit softish. Not bad at all, though I would just need to see more grip and backbone.

Deep ruby in colour, and retains its primary character of rich black cherry, redcurrant, cinnamon, cloves, cocoa bean, grilled sandalwood, high spice and fresh acidities. 90% new oak for ageing. Lucien Guillemet is winemaker and co-owner.

Logo on the cork: A inside a circle (Amorim) Deep, intense dark red color. Moderately aromatic nose with ripe fruit. A hint of seaweed underpinned by a lovely note of oak. Precise on the attack, flavorful through the mid-palate, with a supple body, the wine develops into a long, sappy finish with slightly chalky tannins. A renewal.
