Description
Tasting notes and characteristics of Château Brane-Cantenac 2025
Tasting
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is generous and strikingly beautiful. In its youth, it exhales aromas of blackberry and violet, which will evolve into complex notes of truffle over time.
Palate
At once vibrant, powerful and elegant, the palate offers lovely freshness and great precision. It stands out for its pronounced salinity and a silky, refined tannic structure typical of its appellation, with greater concentration than in previous years.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs beautifully with roasted or grilled red meats, such as beef or lamb, seasoned with Provençal herbs. It also goes very well with game, umami-rich dishes or meats served with a mushroom sauce.
Serving and cellaring
Château Brane-Cantenac 2025 is built for a long evolution. It will reach its peak in around 10 to 12 years and can be cellared until 2060 or beyond.
The elegance and precision of a Margaux wine
The estate
Château Brane-Cantenac, a historic estate of the Margaux appellation, was renamed in 1833 when Jacques-Maxime de Brane, nicknamed the "Napoleon of the vines", acquired it. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, the estate has belonged to the Lurton family ever since Léonce Récapet took over its management in 1925. Now led by Henri Lurton, this vineyard, predominantly replanted with Cabernet Sauvignon, produces wines of remarkable elegance thanks to its unique gravelly terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the renowned Margaux appellation, the vineyard stretches across the Brane ridge, characterised by deep Quaternary gravels over clay-gravel subsoils. This exceptional terroir provides excellent drainage while offering deep water reserves. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, are planted at a density of 7,000 to 8,000 plants per hectare. The estate embraces environmentally friendly practices, with 20% of its cultivated surface farmed organically since 2010.
The 2025 vintage celebrates 100 years of the Lurton family at the helm of the estate. To mark the occasion, the bottles feature a dedicated anniversary label.
The vintage
2025 began with a winter close to seasonal norms with no frost episodes, followed by a dry and calm spring that limited disease pressure. The summer proved hot and dry, causing early water stress and a swift veraison from mid-July onwards. A few welcome rains in late August and September allowed the growing cycle to conclude in a balanced manner. The harvest, among the earliest of the past thirty years, yielded small berries in excellent sanitary condition.
Grape varieties
This blend is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Carmenère. The final blend includes a proportion of 12.1% press wine. ABV: 13.3% vol.
