Château Calon Ségur "The Book"

A historic work and a collection of 5 vintages of a great Saint-Estèphe wine brought together in an elegant limited-edition case

The estate

Calon was the name given to the boat used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank of the Garonne to the other. And at the beginning of the 18th century, the Marquis de Ségur, who received the estate on the occasion of his marriage, added his name to it, thus giving birth to the label of this 3rd Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Estèphe.

The Château Calon-Ségur remained in the Capbern-Gasqueton family throughout the 19th century, until 2012, when the estate was purchased by Suravenir Assurances, which continues to produce Saint-Estèphe wines with an inimitable style bearing the stamp of the appellation.

Château Calon Ségur has also become famous for its label adorning the estate’s bottles. Since the 18th century, the heart has been the symbol of the estate and pays tribute to this quote by the Marquis de Ségur: “I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon.” For nearly three centuries, lovers of Château Calon Ségur have remained faithful to this iconic property of the appellation.

The vineyard

This Saint-Estèphe vineyard covers an area of 50 hectares, 48 of which are in production. The vines, averaging 20 years old, are planted on a thick layer of Garonne gravel dating from the Quaternary, topped with a thin layer of lacustrine clay.

Château Calon Ségur unveils, to mark the completion of the first work tracing its history, a refined and innovative case: Château Calon Ségur “The Book.”

This limited edition brings together, in a unique and highly elegant case, the book recounting several centuries of history as well as 5 vintages (1989, 1995, 2003, 2010, 2016) marking five major chapters in the destiny of this illustrious Saint-Estèphe estate.

Through both the complexity and finesse of these five bottles and the pages that exalt this centuries-old history, Château Calon Ségur “The Book” is an invitation to a sensory and temporal journey to discover an emblematic name of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.
