Château Cap de Mourlin 2019

Plummy fruit, chewy tannins, a beat away from rustic but staying on the right side of the line. The high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon no doubt partly explains the slightly sombre feeling here, with savoury fruits and a firm structure.

Blackcurrant and dark-chocolate aromas follow through to a full body with well-integrated tannins and a berry and chocolate aftertaste. Very attractive and youthful. Fine layering. Try after 2024.

The 2019 Cap de Mourlin is powerful, but also a bit angular in its contours. Blackberry jam, espresso, licorice, cloves and chocolate give the 2019 its dark, rather somber personality. This is an especially brooding, virile Saint-Émilion.

Smoke, flowers, espresso, truffle, dark red fruits, spice and licorice scents pop with no effort. Silky, soft, lush and polished with a beautiful sense of purity to the sweet, red pit fruits, the wine lingers on the palate and in the finish with fresh sweet berries, and touches of spicy chocolate in the endnote. Drink from 2024-2037.

A youthful and dense expression with youthful fruit, crushed berry and cassis notes, still youthful and muscular, but with fine layers of purity, length and potential.

Spiced black cherries, dried herbs, tobacco, and cedarwood emerge from the 2019 Château Cap De Mourlin, a deep ruby/purple-hued Saint-Emilion that’s medium-bodied, has the savory, complex style of the vintage, good overall balance, and solid length on the finish. It opens up nicely with time in the glass. A rich, mouth-filling, character-filled effort, it comes up short on elegance yet has texture and richness. Drink it over the coming decade.

Deep purple with a ruby rim. Compact, blueberry-driven bouquet with blackberry and blueberry jelly, backed by licorice and exotic woods. On the palate, powerful with a firm, somewhat austere texture, grainy extract, and plenty of energy. In the focused finish, the St.-Émilion narrows progressively, ending on dried black berries and cherry skin. This needs time to be digested.

Deep inky in colour with carefully sculpted depths through the palate, this is lovely. The chewy tannins remain tight on the finish, not fully integrated yet; good quality with a ton of potential but it remains subdued.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Cap de Mourlin gives up notes of prunes, fruitcake, and Chinese five spice with hints of new leather and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has rustic tannins with just enough fruit and an abrupt, chewy finish.

Good complexity highlighting notes of blackcurrant, licorice, and black pepper. Fine, polished tannins on the palate. There is body, character, and a saline touch on the finish. Fruity finale with good persistence.

Beautiful deep, dark red. Fruity nose, slightly discreet. A lightly leafy note. A palate with gentle body, evolving into savory, fruity flavors with a slightly firm touch on the finish. Medium length.
