Tasted at the de Myrat vertical at the property. The 2002 Château de Myrat is a little disappointing on the nose after the optimism provoked by the 2001 de Myrat. It just feels a little flat and tired after 14 years. The palate deserves better aromatics, because here one finds freshness and fine balance, a viscous texture and a charming, lightly honeyed, quite pure finish. It is probably on the downhill slope and the nose is leading. Tasted April 2016.

Big and rich with lots of dried apricot and pineapple character, intertwined with honey and syrup. Full-bodied, very sweet and a long finish. Very rich for the vintage. Well done. Best after 2008. 2,500 cases made.

Slightly coppery gold. Very rich and correct. Definitely one of the better 2002s. Hint of putty on top of the ripe pears of botrytis. Full, succulent, almost overripe pears with no shortage of compensatory, rather than dominant, acidity. Real vivacity. (JR)

Mature color and nose, dark golden with hints of autumn leaves, smoke and chestnut, with dried fruit. Good grip on the palate, more freshness than the nose suggests, sweet citrus, apricot and layered spiciness. Long, fresh finish with good grip and zest, fine drinkability today. Traditional style and character, but I like it.

03: Medium yellow; bright. Open bouquet with aromas of chamomile and light honey. On the palate, medium-bodied, with a lovely acid‑sweetness balance and good length. 17/20 2006–2025

Lighter color than 2004, a simple yet honest and pure citrus nose, nice roasted grape character, good length, well-made wine, highly recommendable.

Description

2002 Sauternes 2e Cru Classe

Chateau de Myrat family vineyard lies on magnificent 22 hectares land in Haut-Barsac. The 2002 release is a tasty combination of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle.

The Sauternes 2e Cru Classe from Bordeaux displays a shiny and clear golden colour. The nose reveals lovely flower bouquet, spicy, with elegant blond tobacco and cigar. The palate is full and fruity, with hints of yellow peaches, candied pineapple, and fruit paste. The generous finish offers raspberry and red fruits. Chateau de Myrat 2002 vintage carries beautiful intensity and delicate sharpness which add balance and elegance in typical Barsac fashion.
