Decanter

Vivid colour in the glass with absolutely gorgeous perfumed aromas, almost sweet purple flowers and blackcurrants. Really vibrant and expressive, so alive with a touch of medicinal herbal eucalyptus too plus blue fruit and cola. Creamy and soft straight away, silky smooth and so juicy, this is bursting with life and juiciness — such a pure and happy wine. Really focused, precise and detailed with absolute clarity but silky, finely structured tannins. Pure happiness in a glass. Super drinkable, a fabulous wine — succulent with the perfect tannin feel, creamy, velvety and really softly chalky on the finish with a cool mint and cola element that lingers. I love the construction and elegance here. Pure refinement without being too strict or tight. Similar to 2023 in terms of freshness. Perfection. Intense but not showing off, nothing out of place – a showstopper that is perfectly ripe with perfect acidity. 3.66pH. A yield of 25hl/ha. 90% grand vin. 8% press wine.

Flowers, forest leaves, raspberries, tobacco leaves, plums, and a hint of espresso already express their nuances in the perfume. The palate is shaped by the gorgeous purity of the fruit. From there, elegance, a relaxed vibe, and tension provide lift, allowing you to enjoy the creamy, silky palate, with its multiple layers of fruit and mineral essence, lingering for close to 60 seconds. Perhaps the most salient factors that shaped the 2025 vintage were the number of sun hours, combined with heat and drought, followed by cool nights. This combination of events has not occurred before. The wine blends 38% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 30% Cabernet Franc. 9% Press wine. 13.2% ABV, 3.65 pH. The yields were only 25 hectoliter per hectare. Picking took place from September 1 to September 19. Drink from 2030-2065. 98-100 Pts

Inky colour with violet reflections; swirling cocoa bean and espresso, blood orange, baked plum, blueberry, blackberries; chalky tannins; Parma violets, peony and iris; a slate-strewn tannic architecture. Intense and concentrated—great stuff with clear ageing potential. Harvest September 1 to 19, pH 3.64, 25 hl/ha yield, pH 3.64. Frédéric Faye, director. No deleafing during the growing season, reduced canopy height, and a cool vinification approach. 90% Grand Vin, 10% Petit Figeac.

The vintage got off to a calm start, earlier than usual. In April—over Easter weekend, on 21 April—100 mm of rain fell in just two days! That would be the season’s only heavy rainfall (with only a few modest storms in May). It was followed by dry, warm weather, with very high temperatures in June and July. Veraison was slow, which favours aromatic expression. In early August, the berries began to gain in potential alcohol. However, once technological ripeness was reached, things didn’t move much after that and—crucially—acidity remained at a good level. The downside was berry size, which kept getting smaller and smaller! The light rain at the end of August had no impact on grape quality, but it allowed Cabernet Sauvignon to finish the race with peace of mind. Harvest began in early September, on the 1st, and ended on the 19th. The bouquet of Figeac 2025 stands out for its pixel-like precision, its countless details, the brightness of its fruit and freshness, enhanced by floral and spicy notes—peony and black pepper, respectively. The precise, almost taut attack sets the stage for a focused, seamless progression. The tannins gradually unfold, showing a serene power that is perfectly measured and, moreover, in tune with the razor-sharp edge of the acidity. A Figeac that distinguishes itself through its subtlety, depth, and its ability to shine through the finesse of its power, with a deliciousness perfectly correlated with the acidic structure and, incidentally, with a character that hints at near-term pleasure to come—without calling into question its magnificent ageing potential. A very Bordeaux contemporary! I don’t rate the wine on potential; or rather, yes—its potential is 100. No more, no less.

Deep, intense red colour with black highlights. Very aromatic, refined nose. Notes of blackberry, raspberry and violet. This floral character becomes more pronounced as the wine is swirled in the glass. Precise on the attack and especially flavoursome on the mid-palate, with a classic sense of grace and texture, the wine melts across the palate, bathing it in fruit. Very slowly, it builds towards a long, fragrant, sapid finish. Superb! Blend: 38% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alcohol content: 13% - pH: 3.66. Yield: 25 hl/ha. 8% press wine.

Description

Tasting notes and characteristics of Château Figeac 2025

Tasting

Nose
The nose unfolds with delicacy and complexity, blending hints of peony and white pepper with generous notes of red fruits, all carried by a fine mineral touch with graphite accents.

Palate
On the palate, the attack is wonderfully smooth, supported by powdery tannins of remarkable finesse. The mid-palate unfolds with breadth and roundness, allowing a beautiful bouquet of vibrant fresh fruits to express itself. The delicately saline finish elegantly prolongs this sense of harmony, marking a subtle and accomplished balance between liveliness and the profound expression of the terroir.

A Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" from Saint-Émilion combining liveliness and depth

The estate
The Château Figeac, an iconic figure of the Bordeaux vineyards, traces its roots back to Gallo-Roman antiquity, as attested by numerous archaeological remains. Since 2022, its elevation to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" has crowned a long-standing excellence. For over a century, the Manoncourt family, led by Thierry Manoncourt, has shaped the identity of this estate on the right bank of Bordeaux, through demanding and meticulous viticulture.

The vineyard
A true benchmark of the Saint-Émilion terroir, Figeac stands out for its singular geographical location, nestled at the western tip of the appellation, on the doorstep of Pomerol. Its vineyard extends over three superb gravelly mounds, the source of a remarkable geological richness. The care taken to preserve natural balances illustrates the estate's deep commitment to cultivating its lands in harmony with the environment.

The vintage
A rainy spring followed by a scorching summer (up to 44°C) resulted in small, highly concentrated berries, fostering remarkable aromatic richness and tannins of great finesse. The harvest, early and conducted with precision from 1 to 19 September, gave rise to harmonious, fresh and balanced wines, thanks in particular to a long cold maceration and slow, carefully controlled fermentations. Château Figeac 2025 stands out as a vintage of great elegance, revealing the excellence of its terroir and the expertise of its teams.
