Decanter

Plenty of punch but this is an elegant wine overall, with carefully controlled blackberry and cassis fruit notes, and one that should be ready to drink within five years. Fine tannins, overall a real success for medium-term drinking. 75% new oak at this 27ha estate owned by the Dassault family.

Vinous

Neal Martin

The 2019 La Fleur has a pretty bouquet of pure red cherry and crushed strawberry scents, with touches of rose petal and orange blossom emerging over time. The palate is medium-bodied and harmonious, with lithe tannins and good concentration. This Saint-Émilion has come along nicely since its showing from barrel. Worth seeking out.

Dark in color, the wine is round, lush and fruity with layers of dark cherries, plums, chocolate, toasty oak and licorice, all wrapped up in a plush bow that will be great with just about a year or so in the cellar. 89-91 pts

Weinwisser

Opaque purple with a black core. Complex bouquet of Alpine blueberries, nougat pralines and blackberry jelly, followed by licorice, exotic woods and a delicate violet scent. On the palate, a silky texture and perfectly supportive, lightly vibrating freshness, with a tight-knit body and cocoa-like tannins. In the focused finish, the delicacy narrows and concludes with blackcurrants, sour cherry juice and juniper, a salty extract paired with gentle astringency. This is a positive surprise from St.-Émilion this year!

Polished, with bilberry and damson fruits. A ton of impact, carefully delivered tannins, a touch of heat on the finish that overtakes the undoubted nuances that run through the glass. Vignobles Dassault. 75% new oak.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 La Fleur bursts with baked blackberries, warm plums, and sautéed herbs scents, plus hints of charcuterie and tilled soil. Full-bodied, the palate is taut and laden with expressive black fruits, framed by rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing savory.

Le Figaro Vin

A nose with aromas of prune, of port, that transports you to the cellar. On the palate, an avalanche of night‑dark black fruits, the chiseled elegance of a chestnut horse.

Description

The fruit and elegance of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

The estate
Located on the right bank of the Bordeaux region, Château La Fleur is a beautiful property classified as a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru and belonging to the Dassault family. Château La Fleur offers wines reflecting the typical character of the great terroirs of Saint-Émilion.

The vineyard
Château La Fleur reigns over an exceptional vineyard, spread over 27.5 hectares on the northern plateau of Saint-Emilion. Aged 33 years on average, the vines are planted in clay-limestone soils.

The winemaking
Manual harvest between September 26 and October 10. Density sorting. Plot vinification in concrete tanks and thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks.

The ageing
Ageing in barrels for 15 to 16 months. New French oak barrels (75%), barrels of one previous wine (25%).

The blend
Merlot (94%), cabernet franc (4%), cabernet sauvignon (2%).

The tasting
Tasted en primeur, the Château La Fleur 2019 is a wine that offers a beautiful purple colour with purple reflections. Notes of blackcurrant, redcurrants and small black fruits spring forth from the glass and immediately charm the nose. On the palate, the attack is fruity, evolving into a balanced and elegant mid-palate. The tannins are precise and well-integrated, giving the Château La Fleur 2019 a juicy structure. A delicious Saint-Emilion that can be enjoyed in its youth for the more impatient wine lover, or kept for several years to evolve in the bottle.
