Vinum

Dense, herb-spicy and refined, with tarragon and verbena, a hint of cherry blossom, and blackcurrant; the palate is juicy, crisp, fresh and finely textured, building intensity while remaining elegant; the tannins are present without overshadowing the fruit; a long, spicy, red-fruited finish. An excellent La Lagune.

Decanter

Gorgeous aromatics – bright red fruit and pink flowers. Tannic and a bit compact right now with dark liquorice and salty stone aspects. Quite tight and firm, I like the cool freshness and purity of the crisp, blueberry fruit but the structure is at the fore right now and this has some compaction. Spiced liquorice and tobacco on the finish. A yield of 20hl/ha. 3.73pH.

Flowers, cherries, smoke, licorice, and currants are on display in the perfume. Medium-bodied, elegant, soft, and fresh, the fruits offer a clean, vibrancy, paired with refinement that you can taste and feel. This should be quite charming close to release, and for at least 15-20 or more years after that. The wine blends 50% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2029-2055. 93-95 Pts

Well made, sleek and deep dark fruits, cassis pastille, intense with a cushion of air. A very impressive vintage here, nuanced and well structured. Delphine Frey, Director of the Frey family estates, yield 20hl/ha. Xavier Moragues is the cellar master and technical director, with the estate for the past 18 months. New use of foudres and porcelain jars alongside oak barrels during the ageing, and the vineyard has also returned to its historic 1855 classified surface.

What elegance, depth and definition in this bouquet! It’s thrilling for its fruity intensity and its classic spicy nuances. It shows a convincing interplay between red-berry notes such as raspberry and a touch of perfectly ripe black berries. The velvety attack paves the way for a bold, conquering wine with subtle power. Its driving force lies in compact tannins and a structuring acidity. The whole will blossom over the coming months, but the foundations La Lagune has laid today promise great enjoyment. A very fine achievement.

Dark, intense colour with purple highlights. A highly aromatic nose: fruity, pure, spicy and suave. The attack is fleshy and immediately full-bodied; with class on the palate and depth of flavour, the wine unfolds slowly—dense and complex—towards a long, sappy finish. I have rarely seen such pinpoint control of tannic power in this wine. Bravo! Blend: 50% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 14%.

A vibrant and delicate Grand Cru Classé from the Haut-Médoc

The estate

Château La Lagune, founded in 1587, is a prestigious wine estate located in the Haut-Médoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. The château, designed by architect Baron Victor Louis, the architect behind the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, is a fine example of Bordeaux architectural elegance. Classified as a 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the estate stretches across an exceptional gravel terroir that fosters a unique microclimate. Since 2004, Caroline Frey has been applying all her expertise to elevate Château La Lagune to the highest level.

The vineyard

Located in the Haut-Médoc on soils of light gravel composed of pink, yellow and white quartz, calcite and agate, the 70-hectare vineyard, with vines aged between 20 and 60 years, benefits from an ideal terroir for the expression of Bordeaux grape varieties. The estate is deeply committed to preserving biodiversity, with 40 hectares of forests, marshes and meadows, as well as 150 trees and 2,700 metres of hedges planted.

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvesting followed by a triple manual sorting completed by optical sorting. Cold pre-fermentation maceration for the Merlot and Petit Verdot. No sulphites added at vatting. Extractions are gentle, carried out through pump-overs. Ageing takes place 50% in barrels (including 25% new oak), as well as in large oak casks, stainless steel, concrete and porcelain vats. Alcohol content: 14% vol.

Blend

50% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot.
