Château La Tour Figeac 2014

It hasn’t lost any of its freshness or fruitiness and has even gained in depth.

The 2014 La Tour Figeac has a straightforward, clean and pure bouquet with blackcurrant pastilles, raspberry coulis and a touch of autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannin and it feels slightly low in acidity. It offers good substance, although I detected a bit of meanness towards the finish that missed the vigor of its peers. Hopefully it will improve in bottle.

Offers a friendly, rounded feel, with warm plum and cherry sauce notes infused with tea and warm fruitcake hints. Has just enough juiciness to hold the finish. Drink now through 2020. 3,000 cases made.

Quite ripe and mellow in spite of the dry tannins. This lacks the vitality of the best and seems slightly ponderous, although it has plenty of substance and good length. Drink now.

Sour blackcurrant and bitter herbs. Very fine tannin and cutting acidity. Pretty harsh overall. (RH)

The 2014 La Tour Figeac is soft, open-knit and quite pretty, if a touch slender. Cedar, smoke, tobacco and wild cherry abound, all with an extra kick of aromatic intensity from the Cabernet Franc. Less expressive than it was from barrel, the 2014 appears to have shut down a bit. It will be interesting to see if some of the depth the wine showed in its youth emerges with more time in bottle. The blend is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc.

Sweet cherries, earth and stone with fresh picked flowers on the nose, this medium-bodied wine has a soft, sweet, cherry finish. 88-90 pts

Less exuberant and concentrated compared to the 2015, the 2014 Château La Tour Figeac (70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc) sports a medium ruby/purple color as well as classy notes of black cherries, loamy earth, forest floor, and mushrooms. With a medium-bodied, elegant style on the palate, moderate mid-palate depth, yet balance, class, and length, it’s already drinking nicely yet should keep for 10-15 years.

Dark garnet, fairly dense in the middle, ruby rim. Restrained nose at first; you can sense the spice of Cabernet Franc in the background—tobacco initially, then some fruit—yet it remains reserved. Velvety palate with soft, well-balanced proportions. A gentle yet truly beautiful Tour-Figeac. There is room for further pleasant surprises up to bottling.

Dark garnet, fairly dense in the middle, ruby rim. Reserved nose at first; you sense the spice of Cabernet Franc in the background—tobacco first, then some fruit—yet it remains restrained. Velvety palate with soft, well-balanced proportions. A mild yet truly beautiful Tour-Figeac. There’s room for further pleasant surprises before bottling. (17/20). 18: Dark ruby with a brightening rim. Intense bouquet with a slight peppery note. The aromatic profile leans toward red fruits such as cherries and blackcurrants, with a subtle lactic hint in the background. On the second pass: Damassine plums. On the palate, velvety, again slightly peppery; the acidity still dominates just a touch. The wine is nearing its first stage of maturity. A classic that beautifully reflects the successful 2014 vintage. (17/20).

Fresh, mineral, silky bouquet with strawberries, cedar, tobacco, and fine praline notes. Balanced, elegant, silky, and fresh palate with good fruit, fine-boned structure, fine tannins, powerful, full aromatics, and a long, delicate finish. 17/20 2021 - 2034

Three quarters Merlot to one quarter Cabernet Franc: La Tour Figeac 2014 offers lovely flesh, silky tannins and exuberant fruit. It’s not a heavyweight, but its charm and straightforward, expressive flavour are truly uplifting.

Juicy red berries and spices mingle on the nose, which shows plenty of elegance and delicacy. The palate is vibrant, fruity and easy-drinking.

Medium garnet red. Fruity bouquet with good intensity. Notes of red fruits such as raspberry, with a menthol touch. The attack is juicy and elegant. The body is perfectly balanced and shows good aromatic intensity. The structure brings liveliness and the tannins offer potential. A wine built on elegance and drinkability. A very pertinent choice! Bravo.

Medium-intensity color with slight evolution. Moderately aromatic nose, fruity, with a smoky touch reminiscent of Graves. Soft palate, very fruity, developing with flavor and fine tannins. It’s good and, above all, with no hard edges.
