Decanter

Liquorice and blackcurrant aromas on the nose, smells quite dark and heady and seductive. Almost a sweet, sticky liquorice aspect with some wet stone salinity. Supple and filling with a really wide and ample expression, firm not overly fleshy tannins with a dark vanilla, cedar, tobacco and blackcurrant edge. I like the serious, quite firm concentration here – it still has acidity to lift but this is focused and really quite determined. An impressive Langoa this year with some wood spice on the finish. Really a cool, classic, fresh, hands-off kind of style. This will be great. A yield of 20hl/ha.

Black currant, cigar wrappers, cedar, peppery spices and herbs are already expressive in the nose. The palate is sweet, juicy, firm, and round, finishing with ripe blackberries, and cassis in an almost forward, juicy, creamy style that really works here. Drink from 2030-2060. 93-95 Pts

Langoa is very much a wine of the moment, with a sense of energy and punch, and you get that here, juicy and characterful, raspberry and cherry pit, hard to beat in terms of pleasure delivery. Great stuff. Very drinkable wine. Tasted twice, love the energy here.

Notes of black berries, licorice, and graphite are accompanied by hints of oak aging. Driven by fine-grained tannins and a well-structured acidity, the wine shows character and breadth. It still needs to gain in finesse and harmony—something it will have ample time to achieve during its aging. A promising, captivating wine!

Deep black color. An intense, refined, fruity nose—subtle and noble. A beautiful scent of fresh blackberries. Very chic. Ultra-precise on the attack, with an immediately melting body and a very classy feel on the palate, the wine stretches out through the finish, all in softness—elegant, perfumed, and noble in its tannin texture. Wow! Blend: 45% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol content: 13.5%.

Vinum

Expressive, fruit-driven and with a clear toasty note, coriander seeds, cherries, blackcurrant; on the palate it is fleshy, round, fruit-forward, then it tightens up; the tannins make their mark and are currently very present, but the fruit is there. It should find even more finesse with aging.

The elegance and structure of a Saint-Julien wine

The estate

Acquired in 1821 by Hugh Barton, Château Langoa Barton is an illustrious estate in the Bordeaux region, recognised as a 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Located within the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, this historic property extends over a 20-hectare vineyard. A rare occurrence in the Bordeaux landscape, the estate has remained in the hands of the same family since its creation. Today, it is Lilian Barton Sartorius, supported by her children Mélanie and Damien, who runs the property, passionately perpetuating the legacy and excellence of this great name in wine.

The vineyard

The exceptional terroir of Saint-Julien on which the vineyard rests is composed of deep gravel over a clay subsoil. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, are planted at a high density of 9,100 plants per hectare, thereby promoting grape concentration. The estate is certified High Environmental Value (HVE 3) and favours sustainable practices, with soil work carried out through traditional ploughing and a total absence of herbicides.

The vintage

The year began with a mild and dry winter, followed by a warm and humid spring that stimulated the vine's growth. The summer season was then marked by spells of intense heat, fortunately tempered by welcome rains. These contrasting climatic conditions allowed for optimal concentration in the berries. The harvest unfolded under the best auspices, from 4 to 18 September.

Winemaking and ageing

Careful ageing in French oak barrels, including 60% new wood. Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Grape varieties

45% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.
