Decanter

Sharp and high-toned, a rush of quite bright, almost sour raspberry, strawberry and red cherry fruits offset by quite high acidity. Lightly framed in terms of texture and overall weight, there is nice energy here, more refined and crisp than some with good freshness.

James Suckling

A refined and polished 2020 with lovely currant, chocolate, bark, and wet earth aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and a pretty finish. Needs time to open. Try in 2025.

Vinous

Neal Martin

The 2020 Larrivaux has a very nicely composed nose: blackberry, sous-bois, light pencil box scents, focused and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite-infused black fruit. Just a little rigid at the moment, yet fresh and saline with an attractive graphite-infused finish. This has kicked on nicely, but give it a couple of years in bottle.

Cherries, dried flowers, savory herbs, and currants form the core of this medium-bodied charmer. Fresh and polished, with plenty of sweet red fruits, soft textures, and loads of red pit fruits with a touch of chalk on the finish. This is a superb example of a Bordeaux value wine. Drink from 2023–2035.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2020 Larrivaux is deep garnet-purple in color. It delivers notes of crushed blackberries and boysenberries, leading to suggestions of bay leaves and crushed rocks. The medium-bodied palate offers youthful red and black fruit, with a chewy texture and refreshing finish.

Le Figaro Vin

Winey, oaky nose with aromas of small black and red berries, supported by a hint of white pepper. On the palate, beneath still-pointed tannins, there is an elegant, supple texture with freshness and an acidity-driven finish.

Yves Beck

Delicate and fruity, Larrivaux 2020 is inviting from the outset. Its moreish character and freshness enhance its sapidity. A wine to enjoy in its youth.

Vertdevin

The wine shows a medium-intensity ruby color. The nose is subtle, elegant and complex, delivering appealing fruity notes (ripe morello cherry, wild strawberry, red cherry, sweet raspberry, wild blackberry, blackcurrant, even crème de cassis). The oaky and spicy side is refined and delicate: cocoa, toasted hazelnut, gentle coffee, vanilla pod, licorice and clove notes complement the fruity bouquet without overpowering it. There are also light floral nuances in the background (rose, lily, fresh cornflower). On the palate, the wine is airy and delicate, with lovely freshness and acidity. It offers silky, fine-grained tannins and a juicy, enveloping fruit core. Flavors are ripe yet fresh: crunchy morello cherry, wild strawberry, red cherry, wild blackberry, blueberry, along with a subtle, integrated spicy touch (vanilla pod, clove, licorice). Good persistence, finishing with floral notes (cornflower, rose).
