Château Latour-Martillac 1993

A reasonably well-made 1993, this wine exhibits the textbook earth, vanillin, lead pencil, and cassis aromas of a young Bordeaux. With airing, some of the herbal, green pepper notes of this vintage make their presence known. Spicy, with moderate tannin, medium body, and a tendency toward leanness and austerity, this wine should be drunk over the next 4-5 years before it dries out.

Some nice ripeness in this medium- to full-bodied '93, as attractive plum, cherry and currant flavors linger on the plate. Supple tannins. Try in 1997.

94: Extremely deep, dense purple. Seductively sweet bouquet of wild raspberries, perhaps a little one-dimensional, with an underlying smoky note. Full-bodied on the palate, quite berry-driven with lovely aromatics, unfortunately drying on the tongue due to the tannins. 15/20. 1999–2010

Deep red color. Medium to fairly good intensity. Showing some development at the rim. Nose a little green. Medium intensity. Palate too acidic.
