The meeting of two expressions from an illustrious Pessac-Léognan estate

The estate

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, a major Pessac-Léognan estate, is located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Founded in the 16th century, this vineyard today delivers an expression of its terroir that is the work of a visionary owner and artisans with the precision of goldsmiths. Acquired in 2010 by the Pichet real estate group, Château Les Carmes-Haut-Brion is now one of the most distinguished crus of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

The vineyard

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a Pessac-Léognan wine produced from a 30.75-hectare vineyard, of which 7.60 hectares are dedicated to the Grand Vin. The vines, nearly 40 years old, are planted on Mindel gravels over a clay-limestone base.

The case

"Hommage au siècle par Carmes Haut-Brion" celebrates the century 1917–2017 as well as all the men and women who have marked the estate’s history.

This unique case brings together two expressions of the estate’s spirit, namely a Marie-Jeanne of Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, a 100% Cabernet Franc edition, as well as a fragrance named “L’eau des Carmes.”

This limited edition brings back into fashion an emblematic Bordeaux bottle whose format had been forgotten since the 1950s: the Marie-Jeanne. With a 2.25L capacity, the low, flared shape of the Marie-Jeanne was abandoned in favor of more elongated bottles to facilitate transport. With its unique, flared curves, the Marie-Jeanne nevertheless allows for better preservation by improving the wine’s aging capacity.

A true collector’s item, the idea of creating a unique and singular bottle was born from the talented Guillaume Pouthier, Director of Les Carmes Haut-Brion. He sought to pay tribute to the château’s heritage and history while reflecting the wave of modernity the estate has undergone, becoming one of the finest benchmarks of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. An extraordinary, fully custom-made bottle presented in a clear glass case designed to optimize the bottle’s preservation.

Associated with this Marie-Jeanne is a complementary expression of the spirit of Les Carmes Haut-Brion in the form of a fragrance that pays a sincere and fitting tribute to “Bijou,” a grande dame born in 1917 who lived for many years at the estate. This perfume reveals subtle notes of iris, violet, musks, and refreshing woody nuances, along with slightly powdery accents reminiscent of the perfumes of the time.
