Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Ormes de Pez 2000
Tasting
Colour
This red wine displays a particularly deep, intensely pigmented colour.
Nose
The bouquet is rich and well balanced, releasing deep aromas of dark fruits such as blackcurrant and blackberry. This fruity core is enhanced by delicate floral notes and spicy nuances.
Palate
The palate is broad, rich and fleshy. Its structure rests on flavourful, well-integrated tannins, giving the whole a remarkable harmony between power and voluptuousness.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée is an ideal match for full-flavoured red meats. A fine grilled rib of beef is a perfect choice to showcase its fleshy texture and generous tannins.
Serving and cellaring
With its solid structure, Château Ormes de Pez 2000 has excellent ageing potential, allowing it to refine and develop its full complexity over years of cellaring.
The generous, structured expression of a great Saint-Estèphe terroir
The estate
Rooted in the Bordeaux landscape since the 18th century, Château Ormes de Pez covers 40 hectares. Originally known as Domaine de Pez, it was acquired on the eve of the Second World War by Jean-Charles Cazes. Today, the estate still belongs to the Cazes family and is run by Jean-Charles Cazes within the family group. Recognised as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2003 and HVE 3 certified since 2018, this historic estate combines Médoc tradition with a strong commitment to the environment.
The vineyard
Located in the north of the Saint-Estèphe commune, near the hamlet of the same name, the terroir enjoys a temperate oceanic climate moderated by the Gironde estuary. The vines thrive on a mosaic of complementary soils: warm Garonne gravels, ideal for ripening the Cabernets, and cooler clay-sand soils, perfect for Merlot. The vines are managed according to the principles of sustainable agriculture, encouraging biodiversity through flowering fallow land and optimised plant protection.
The vintage
Recognised as a vintage of very high quality in the Médoc, this year offered particularly favourable conditions for full phenolic ripeness, making it possible to craft a wine that is complete, powerful and remarkably well balanced.
Vinification and ageing
Following manual harvesting with rigorous sorting in the vineyard, the berries undergo traditional Bordeaux-style vinification in vats. The wine is then carefully aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 45% of which are new.
Grape varieties
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
