Château Pédesclaux 2022

Expressive, ample, clear and pure, cassis, blackberry, fruit tea; fresh palate, red-fruited, elegant, powerful, not overdone, great elegance, lots of breed. Shows more precision than in previous years. Bravo!

Strong and dark aromatics, blackcurrant, liquorice and salty stones. Juicy and lively on the palate, excellent acidity and freshness. There’s something very precise and detailed about the flavours and fine tannins with lots of appealing fleshy berry fruit and licks of both mint, clove and coffee on the finish. Carefully constructed with lots of finesse and nuance. Sleek and streamlined with a lovely lift all the way through and such a long, moreish finish. Excellent quality from this estate that continues to improve.

Fascinating aromas of blackberries and blackcurrants with some dried-herb undertones. Medium- to full-bodied, this has a solid core of fruit and a long and flavorful finish. Focused and tannin-driven with lovely integration and intensity. A blend of 68% cabernet sauvignon, 22% merlot, 7% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot. Give this three to four years to soften, but I’m impressed with the energy here already. Try after 2028.

Tasted blind. Still very purple. Sweet with ripe purple fruit on the nose. Dry liquorice flavours on the pale and a very dry finish. Claret style! Quite long. GV? (JR)

Flowers with black currants, cigar wrappers, herbs, and underbrush in the complex aromatics. There is energy, vibrancy, refinement, and purity in the spicy currants on the mid-palate, and in the long, expressive, juicy finish. I like the brush of chocolate in the endnote. This is the finest vintage of Pedesclaux ever produced! Give it a few years in the cellar, and enjoy it over the following 2 decades or more. The wine blends 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2028-2050.

Bright black cherries, violets, leafy tobacco, and some meaty, iron, and mineral notes all emerge from the 2022 Château Pédesclaux, a beautifully textured, layered Pauillac that has medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. I think it’s certainly as good as the 2018, 2019, and 2020 and is a classic Pauillac from this team that will benefit from 4-5 years and evolve nicely over the following two decades.

A sparkling, shimmering nose with flashes of black pepper, juniper berry, and lilac. Pure and radiant on the palate, it finishes with a flamboyance of sweet-and-tart purple fruits.

Logo on the cork: A in a circle (Amorim) Deep, vibrant, purplish color. Very aromatic nose, with ripe fruit, subtle and refined, particularly well integrated with the oak. Supple on the attack, hedonistic through the mid-palate, with a fine creamy texture flowing across the palate, rich in flavor; the wine develops into something juicy, complete, delicate yet profound. Great lingering fruitiness without the tannins standing out.

Bright robe with a purple rim, enticing nose of violet, blackcurrant, and star anise, with an attack and palate of great finesse: it’s the perfect wine to share today (of course, it can be cellared). Fine, graceful tannins, a smooth, indulgent mouthfeel brimming with soft fruit... come on, let’s eat!
