Decanter

Tasted at the estate on another occasion and both times this wine proved deliciously opulent with plenty of acidity for balance: let’s say peachy and green-apple freshness. The palate has citrus charm, without any of the flatness one might expect from the hot, dry summer weather, echoing the common refrain that the small berries concentrated acidity—with a low pH of 3.22—just as much as ripeness. For me, the wine’s quality punches well above its price.

The 2025 Lune d'Argent was cropped at 30 hl/ha between 21 August and 19 September. It has a brisk, citrus-fresh nose, scents of apple blossom and orange pith, fine delineation. The palate is well balanced, with pear and melon on the entry, a little lower in acidity than the previous vintage and, as such, just needs a bit more "bite" on the finish. Fine.

White peach, citrus, and pineapple are front and center here. The palate is packed with sweet, ripe tropical fruits and citrus. The wine blends 70% Semillon with 30% Sauvignon Blanc. As a point of reference, this was the first wine offered for sale En Primeur from the 2025 campaign. Drink from 2027-2031. 92-92 Pts

Green-gold, attractive and lifted, this is enjoyable, grippy and easy to enjoy.

Vinum

Herb-spicy, with peach, apricot and smoky notes; creamy on the palate, showing a certain opulence, countered by the acidity; the wine has grip and good length, finishing with a firm note of salted preserved lemon.

Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Clos des Lunes "Lune d'Argent" 2025

Tasting Notes

Appearance
The color reveals a beautiful pale yellow hue, brightened by subtle green highlights.

Nose
The nose expresses great aromatic complexity, releasing notes of white fruits and citrus, mingled with hints of exotic fruit. Delicate floral nuances of acacia and linden blossom round out this bouquet.

Palate
On the palate, the attack is rich, full-bodied and generous. The silky texture brought by the sémillon balances perfectly with the vibrancy of the sauvignon blanc, offering a beautiful tension that stretches toward a saline, mineral finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs perfectly with a seafood platter, firm-fleshed fish or white meats served with a creamy sauce. It also goes very well with spring vegetable dishes, such as asparagus, or with goat cheese.

Serving and Cellaring

To fully enjoy this vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 8°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed until around 2030.

The Elegance and Minerality of a Great Dry White Bordeaux

The Estate

Created in 2011 by Olivier Bernard, the Clos des Lunes estate was born from a singular ambition: to produce a great dry white wine on the terroirs of Sauternes, historically devoted to sweet wines. Belonging to the Bernard family, who also head Domaine de Chevalier, the estate is now run by Olivier Bernard, managing director, alongside his son Hugo Bernard, who oversees the operation. Located in the Bordeaux region, this estate stands out for its quality demands and its determination to rewrite the history of these legendary lands through high-flying wines.

The Vineyard

The vineyard from which this Bordeaux Blanc Sec originates spans 60 hectares, ideally located between the prestigious châteaux d'Yquem and Guiraud. The vines, around 35 years old, are planted on a mosaic of soils combining deep gravel, gravel over clay-limestone subsoil, and the red soils of Barsac. The estate favors demanding, environmentally responsible viticulture.

Winemaking and Ageing

After manual harvesting and careful sorting of the grapes, the process begins with slow pressing in a pneumatic press, without destemming or maceration. Settling is then carried out by gravity. The Clos des Lunes "Lune d'Argent" 2025 is aged for six months, with 25% in barrels and 75% in tanks, in order to structure the wine while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
