Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of Clos La Gaffelière 2025
Tasting
Appearance
The glass reveals a deep ruby hue, enhanced by vibrant purple highlights that reflect its youthfulness and beautiful concentration.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is intense and complex. It opens with notes of perfectly ripe red and black fruits, such as black cherry, raspberry and plum. Delicate floral touches reminiscent of violet intertwine with a characteristic mineral backbone, marked by hints of chalk and graphite, rounded out by subtle oak.
Palate
The attack reveals a wine that is both rich and elegant, with a medium to full body. The juicy fruit expression is supported by round, silky tannins. An unexpected freshness brings balance to the whole, leading to a long and refined finish, where flavours of ripe fruits, sweet spices and a beautiful mineral depth come together.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée will pair beautifully with lean red meats, such as grilled lamb chops with herbs. It will also brilliantly accompany poultry dishes, such as duck breast with cherries or roast chicken with mushrooms. For vegetarian alternatives, a mushroom and truffle oil risotto or roasted vegetables will be wise choices. Finally, medium-aged pressed cheeses, such as Comté, will elevate the tasting experience.
Serving and cellaring
Clos La Gaffelière 2025 is a wine with beautiful ageing potential. It can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2035.
Other characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 13.6% vol., with a total acidity of 3.6 and a pH measured at 3.5.
The Elegance of a Great Saint-Emilion Terroir Crafted by Château La Gaffelière
The estate
Located in the heart of the Bordeaux region, Château La Gaffelière has very ancient winegrowing origins, but it was in 1705 that the Malet Roquefort family officially settled there. Today, Count Léo de Malet Roquefort and his son Alexandre run this historic estate. Renowned for its exceptional terroir, this property embodies a prestigious name that has successfully combined ancestral traditions with modern techniques. The estate stands out for its remarkable family longevity and its unwavering commitment to the excellence of its wines.
The vineyard
Stretching across 20 hectares within the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation, the vineyard lies on hillsides and lower slopes with clay-limestone soils. Certified High Environmental Value (HVE), the estate practises sustainable viticulture. The vines benefit from natural grass cover, single and double Guyot pruning, as well as meticulous work such as leaf thinning and green harvesting. Picking is carried out exclusively by hand, into small crates, to preserve the integrity of the berries.
The vintage
The 2025 vintage was marked by an early budburst of the vines, followed by a swift and uniform flowering. During the summer, intense heat caused hydric stress. Fortunately, much-needed rainfall at the end of August allowed the berries to swell again and ripening to resume optimally, resulting in an early harvest.
Winemaking and ageing
To craft Clos La Gaffelière 2025, the grapes undergo rigorous density-based sorting upon arrival at the cellar. Vinification is carried out plot by plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation is accompanied by regular pump-overs, followed by malolactic fermentation in tank. Ageing then takes place half in barrels (of which 50% are new) and half in tanks.
Grape varieties
This wine is made from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
