Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Domaine des Tourettes 2023 by Delas
Food and wine pairings
Domaine des Tourettes 2023 is an ideal match for red meats, whether grilled or roasted, as well as game and slow-cooked dishes enlivened with spices. It also finds a fine echo in richly flavoured cuisine, notably preparations featuring truffle.
Serving and cellaring
We recommend opening Domaine des Tourettes 2023 one to three hours before tasting, allowing the bouquet to unfold fully. Serving at around 16 to 18°C will bring out its full aromatic complexity. This wine can be cellared until approximately 2048.
A finely woven Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes, balancing freshness and depth
The estate
Founded in 1924 by brothers Henri and Florentin Delas, the House of Delas Frères has established itself as one of the benchmark names of the northern Rhône Valley, with historic roots in Tain-l'Hermitage. Now owned by the Louis Roederer group as part of the Roederer Collection, and led by Marc Hoellinger, the house combines a négociant business with its own vineyard of around thirty hectares. Its new gravity-flow cellar, inaugurated in 2020, reflects its technical rigour and its desire to reveal the finest terroirs of the Rhône.
The vineyard
Domaine des Tourettes red comes from the Hermitage vineyard owned and farmed by Delas, nearly 10 hectares facing due south on the hillside. The blend brings together the lieux-dits Les Bessards and Les Grandes Vignes, located at different altitudes, offering a complete vertical reading of the slope. The soils, composed of granite, mica schist, gneiss and alluvial pebbles, combine with a mosaic of some fifty terraces, where the harvest is carried out exclusively by hand.
The vintage
The 2023 season began with a particularly dry winter and early spring, followed by a markedly wetter second half of spring, marked by the absence of the mistral from the end of April. These conditions nevertheless favoured a successful flowering, which accelerated the vegetative cycle, followed by an even véraison at the end of July. The grapes were harvested in excellent sanitary condition, with balanced ripeness combining concentration and freshness.
Vinification and ageing
For Domaine des Tourettes 2023, the destemmed grapes are transferred to stainless steel tanks, where fermentation and maceration take place over around three weeks, with pumping over and punching down carried out sparingly to preserve the finesse of the tannins. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, where the wine is then aged for 18 months, with a proportion of new oak of around 20%. A final blend is made in stainless steel tank over three months before bottling.
Grape variety
This wine is made from 100% Syrah.
