Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the 2024 Saint-Joseph from Domaine Bernard Gripa
Tasting
Colour
The colour is a deep, brilliant gold, reflecting the beautiful ripeness of the grapes.
Nose
The nose is vibrant and floral, blending aromas of white peach, lemon pulp and yellow apple with notes of chamomile and honeysuckle. Mineral touches of crushed stone and flint complete this expressive bouquet.
Palate
The palate is round and generous, carried by a fleshy texture balanced by lovely freshness. A noble bitterness structures the whole, leading into a long, saline and airy finish, underpinned by mineral accents.
Food and Wine Pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with aïoli, poultry stuffed with chestnuts, white truffle risotto or a mushroom tart. It also works very well with oily fish such as salmon or trout, particularly when they are enhanced with herbs and citrus.
Serving and Cellaring
This 2024 Saint-Joseph from Domaine Bernard Gripa is ideally served between 10 and 12°C. It can be enjoyed now, but will also evolve harmoniously until around 2030.
A White Saint-Joseph from Domaine Bernard Gripa, True to the Granitic Minerality of Mauves
The Estate
Domaine Bernard Gripa is a family-owned estate based in Mauves, in the heart of the northern Rhône Valley, now run by Fabrice Gripa. The family has cultivated vines here for several generations and has been bottling and selling its wines under the Bernard Gripa name since the 1970s. The vines extend across granitic slopes, mainly in the Saint-Joseph and Saint-Péray appellations. Renowned for its classic style and the precision of its wines, the estate produces red and white Saint-Joseph as well as Saint-Péray, and has been recognised by the Guide Hachette.
The Vineyard
This white Saint-Joseph from Domaine Bernard Gripa comes from vines located in Mauves, on the right bank of the Rhône, in the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The plots extend across slopes with granitic soils, complemented by deposits of aeolian loess, which give the wine its characteristic minerality. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, with harvesting carried out by hand.
Vinification and Maturation
Vinification of this 2024 Saint-Joseph begins with a slow pressing of whole bunches, followed by settling carried out shortly after pressing. Fermentation takes place mainly in oak barrels, followed by maturation on fine lees, notably in demi-muids, complemented by a portion in oak barrels and in tanks. This approach allows the oak to be integrated discreetly, serving the texture and freshness of the wine.
Grape Varieties
This white Saint-Joseph is made from 100% Marsanne, the emblematic grape variety of the appellation, vinified here as a single varietal.
