The Estate
Domaine de la Ferté is an estate in the Givry appellation, in the Côte Chalonnaise, in Burgundy, whose vines were once cultivated by the Cistercian monks of the Abbey of La Ferté, founded in 1113. Taken over in 1995 by Bertrand Devillard, who already headed Château de Chamirey and Domaine des Perdrix, the estate is now part of the Domaines Devillard group, run by his children Amaury and Aurore Devillard. Entirely devoted to Pinot Noir, Domaine de la Ferté cultivates renowned plots such as Servoisine and Clos de Mortières, with a approach to viticulture that respects the terroir.
The Vineyard
The vines used for this Givry cuvée extend across clay-limestone slopes facing mainly south and south-east, an orientation conducive to even ripening of the Pinot Noir. The soils, enriched with silt and sand depending on their position on the slope, give the wines both structure and finesse. The vines are on average around 35 years old and are managed using a sustainable approach, with exclusively hand-harvested grapes allowing for a rigorous selection of the fruit before it enters the winery.
Winemaking and Ageing
As with the estate's other village cuvées, the Givry Village 2025 is most likely made from destemmed grapes, vinified in temperature-controlled open vats with indigenous yeasts, with regular pigeage to support the extraction of colour and tannins. Malolactic fermentation is carried through to completion, after which the wine is aged in 228-litre Burgundy barrels made of French oak, with a measured proportion of new wood, in line with the estate's usual practices for its village Givry cuvées.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
