Wine Spectator

Kristen Bieler

A floral, aromatic white, with notes of meadow blossoms and creamed pear that turn oily and round on the palate. Glossy and streaming through the salty, mineral-rich finish, flecked with warm brioche. Clairette, Ugni Blanc and Bourboulenc. Drink now through 2030. 75 cases imported.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Domaine de Terrebrune Blanc 2024

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale golden yellow hue, enhanced by discreet green highlights.

Nose
The bouquet opens with great floral delicacy, exuding scents of jasmine, broom and citrus blossom, enhanced by a subtle touch of fennel. With aeration, aromas of linden blossom mingle with soft pastry notes evoking nougat and honey.

Palate
The attack is lively and bright, carried by a lovely acidity that structures the palate. The mid-palate reveals a texture that is both airy and concentrated, offering stone fruit flavours combined with a pronounced minerality reminiscent of wet stone. The finish, remarkably persistent, lingers on wonderful saline notes.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with seafood such as oysters or scallops, as well as with grilled white fish or fish served with a beurre blanc sauce. It also enhances poached white poultry and Mediterranean-inspired dishes flavoured with herbes de Provence or fennel.

Service and storage

Domaine de Terrebrune Blanc 2024 can be enjoyed now for its floral freshness, but it also boasts excellent aging potential. It can therefore be cellared until around 2034, or even until 2039 for those who favour more complex profiles.

The mineral elegance of a great white wine from Provence by Domaine de Terrebrune

The estate

Founded in 1963 by Georges Delille, Domaine de Terrebrune spans 35 hectares in the south-east of France, at the heart of Provence. Renowned for its environmentally respectful approach and its philosophy of standing apart from fleeting trends, this estate produces wines of remarkable authenticity. Today, the estate is jointly run by Reynald Delille, who carries on the technical and winemaking expertise of his father, and Jean d'Arthuys, who brings his strategic expertise. Together, they ensure the excellence and unique identity of this Provençal vineyard are upheld.

The vineyard

Located within the Bandol appellation, the vineyard rests on an exceptional geological terroir dating back to the Triassic period. The soils consist of brown clay and limestone fragments, resting on deeply fractured bedrock that gives the grapes a distinctive minerality. Grown on restanques (terraced stone walls), the vines benefit from an ideal microclimate, tempered by the maritime influence of the Mediterranean Sea and swept by the mistral wind. The estate favours certified organic viticulture, inspired by biodynamic principles, encouraging natural cover crops and preserving biodiversity.

The vintage

The year began with a particularly dry autumn and winter. However, the summer season brought exceptional sunshine combined with moderate temperatures. Warm days were balanced by cool nights, allowing the vines to retain lovely acidity. Thanks to their deep roots in the limestone bedrock, the vines were able to draw on the water reserves needed to get through the dry period and reach optimal ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

The hand-harvested grapes are brought to a winery designed to operate by gravity, thereby limiting mechanical handling. Fermentation of Domaine de Terrebrune Blanc 2024 takes place under temperature control in neutral vessels. A partial malolactic fermentation is gently carried out to bring roundness while preserving freshness. Finally, the wine benefits from around six months of aging, split between concrete eggs and half-muid oak barrels, allowing for natural clarification.
