The elegance and freshness of a Meursault white wine
The estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley stands as one of the most emblematic institutions in Burgundy. Now led by the seventh generation, embodied by the brother-and-sister duo Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees an exceptional vineyard of around 120 hectares spread across the region's most prestigious terroirs. Combining respect for age-old traditions with a modern vision, the estate has committed to a strong environmental approach, aiming for full organic certification by 2025, the year of its bicentennial.
The vineyard
The village of Meursault, located in the famous Côte de Beaune, enjoys a privileged geographical position within the "Golden Triangle" of white wines. Its terroir stands out for its great geological diversity, blending Jurassic limestone soils with marl formations at varying altitudes. This mosaic of soils gives the vines unique microclimatic conditions, allowing them to fully express the complexity and minerality characteristic of the appellation.
The vintage
2023 offered unique climatic conditions in Burgundy, allowing for optimal ripeness while preserving lovely vibrancy. This vintage stands out for producing white wines that combine remarkable elegance with great freshness, carried by delicate aromas and perfectly balanced acidity.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested followed by rigorous sorting. After pneumatic pressing and settling, the Meursault Village Joseph Faiveley 2023 is fermented over four weeks in French oak barrels, less than a third of which are new. Aging then continues in barrels for fourteen months, accompanied by regular stirring of the fine lees, lending a silky texture and lovely aromatic complexity.
