Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Domaine Laroche's Chablis 1er Cru "Montmains" 2024
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a beautiful pale colour, with green or silvery hues typical of its youth.
Nose
The nose opens with delicate floral fragrances, accompanied by citrus notes such as grilled lemon and crisp fruit like green apple and yellow plum. Subtle buttery touches and a discreet oakiness intertwine with a very pronounced minerality.
Palate
Both elegant and powerful, the palate offers a broad texture supported by high acidity. Remarkably fresh, it reveals an energetic tension and a long finish where the ageing notes are perfectly integrated.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as grilled fish, shellfish or oysters. It also goes very well with vegetarian dishes, white meats in a light sauce, mildly spiced Asian cuisine, as well as matured goat's cheese.
Serving and Ageing
To fully appreciate the Chablis 1er Cru "Montmains" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 10 and 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed now to appreciate its vibrancy, but its fine structure will allow it to age favourably in the cellar for around ten years.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Great Chablis Wine from Domaine Laroche
The Estate
The modern history of Domaine Laroche began in 1850 with Jean-Victor Laroche. Located in the heart of Burgundy, France, this iconic Chablis estate is renowned for its ties to l'Obédiencerie, a former monastery whose historic cellars have been in use for over a thousand years. Now owned by the AdVini group and led by Jean-Baptiste Mouton, the estate spans approximately 90 hectares. A pioneer in adopting screw caps and HVE 3 certified, the estate stands out for its agroecological winegrowing and its constant pursuit of purity to best express its terroirs.
The Vineyard
The Montmains climat, located on the left bank of the Serein river southwest of Chablis, benefits from a south-east exposure in a sun-filled valley that favours early ripening. The 1.46-hectare plot is home to vines aged between 45 and 50 years. They thrive on typically Kimmeridgian soil, made up of limestone rich in marine fossils with a clay subsoil. The vineyard is managed according to strict agroecological principles, including biodiversity preservation, cover cropping and the absence of herbicides.
The Vintage
The year 2024 was marked by extreme weather conditions, beginning with heavy spring rainfall followed by a moderately warm summer. These climatic challenges required constant attention and very precise management of harvest dates, plot by plot, to ensure impeccable grape health and preserve the characteristic freshness of the berries.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for the Chablis 1er Cru "Montmains" 2024 are hand-harvested, followed by rigorous sorting and gentle pneumatic pressing at low pressure. After natural settling, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. The wine is then aged on fine lees for around 12 months in the historic cellars of l'Obédiencerie, combining the tension of steel with the complexity of wood.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
