In-Stock
Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Grasberg 2022 from Domaine Marcel Deiss
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a deep, luminous yellow hue.
Nose
Particularly expressive, the bouquet reveals an explosion of exotic fruit aromas such as mango and pineapple, intertwined with notes of candied citrus like orange zest. Subtle hints of fresh mint and a fine minerality round off this complex profile.
Palate
The attack is lively and refreshing, driven by a vibrant acidity. The mid-palate is fleshy and unctuous, offering a generous array of exotic flavours without any heaviness. The finish is long and lingering, marked by a noble minerality evoking graphite, warm stone and a delicate salinity.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with refined seafood dishes, such as brown crab, a langoustine salad or lobster enhanced by a citrus vinaigrette. It also makes a brilliant partner for richer dishes like duck à l'orange, a creamy gratin dauphinois, or fruity desserts that are not too sweet, such as peaches in syrup.
Serving and cellaring
Blessed with remarkable ageing potential, the Grasberg 2022 cuvée can be laid down in the cellar, where it will evolve very favourably and can be enjoyed until around 2032.
The radiance and minerality of a terroir-driven wine from Alsace
The estate
Founded in 1947 by Marcel Deiss, Domaine Marcel Deiss is an essential reference in Alsace. Located in Bergheim, this family estate of around 32 hectares is now run by Mathieu Deiss, supported by his father Jean-Michel. A pioneer of biodynamics and a fervent advocate of co-planting, the estate stands out for its fierce determination to let the unique identity of each terroir shine through, rather than that of the grape variety. This bold philosophy has also helped to reshape regional regulations, cementing the international reputation of this singular estate.
The vineyard
The cuvée comes from the Grasberg lieu-dit, a high-altitude terroir rising to nearly 340 metres, located at the top of the Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim hill in Alsace. Facing north-east, the vines enjoy a cooler climate that favours slow ripening. They are deeply rooted in very poor, stony soils of Jurassic limestone. The vineyard is farmed according to the demanding principles of biodynamics, promoting soil vitality and biodiversity.
Vinification and ageing
Crafted with minimal intervention to respect the expression of the site, the Grasberg 2022 cuvée undergoes extended ageing. The wine rests patiently on its fine lees in large traditional oak foudres for 18 to 24 months. This long process refines its texture and naturally stabilises the wine without imparting any oaky aromas.
Grape varieties
This wine is the fruit of a field blend dominated by Riesling, harmoniously combined with Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer.
