A fresh, aromatic Sicilian wine from Pantelleria

The estate

Founded in 1983 by Giacomo Rallo and his wife Gabriella, Donnafugata has established itself as one of Italy’s most innovative wine estates. The property spans several sites in Sicily, including 302 hectares of vines at Contessa Entellina and parcels on the volcanic island of Pantelleria. Now run by José and Antonio Rallo, representing the fourth generation of the family, this Sicilian estate combines more than 170 years of winegrowing expertise with an approach firmly focused on sustainable development.

The vineyard

The vineyard from which this wine comes is located in southwest Sicily, on the island of Pantelleria. The vines thrive between 20 and 400 meters above sea level on sandy soils of volcanic origin. The Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild winters and dry, windy summers, promotes optimal grape ripening. The vines are trained in alberello, a traditional bush-vine pruning method listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Harvest takes place from the second half of August through the first ten days of September.

Winemaking and Aging

After gentle pressing, Lighea Zibibbo 2025 ferments in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine then undergoes aging for at least three months in tank, followed by two months in bottle before release.

Grape variety

This wine is made from 100% zibibbo, the island of Pantelleria’s emblematic grape variety.
