A Sicilian rosé celebrating the alliance between creativity and terroir
The estate
Founded in 1983 by Giacomo Rallo, Donnafugata embodies the fourth generation of a Sicilian family winemaking tradition. Based in the heart of Sicily, notably on Etna, the estate spans 488 hectares of vineyards spread across five winemaking cellars. Donnafugata grows ten indigenous grape varieties, including nero d'avola, grillo, catarratto and zibibbo, complemented by international varieties such as chardonnay. The estate stands out for its respect for soil work, its often hand-harvested grapes and its meticulous winemaking, highlighting the authenticity and richness of the Sicilian terroir.
The vineyard
This Sicilia Doc rosé comes from a blend of parcels located in two distinct areas of the island. Nerello mascalese is grown on Etna’s northern slopes, in the Randazzo area, between 600 and 750 meters above sea level. The vines, trained in Etna’s traditional alberello system or in Royat cordon, take root in sandy volcanic soils benefiting from a continental climate with Mediterranean influences. Nocera, for its part, comes from Contessa Entellina, where the vines thrive between 200 and 400 meters above sea level on clay-limestone soils, in a climate characterized by mild winters and dry, breezy summers.
The vintage
The 2025 vintage harvest took place in two stages. Nocera was picked between late August and mid-September, while nerello mascalese was harvested during the second ten-day period of September, enabling the grapes to reach optimal ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
The Rosa Dolce&Gabbana Limited Edition 2025 is crafted using a method that respects the fruit. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine then undergoes three months of aging in tank, followed by bottle aging for at least three months before release.
