Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Villa Pontciana 2022 François Villard
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful white hue.
Nose
Displaying remarkable complexity, the nose opens with a captivating floral bouquet marked by honeysuckle, jasmine and spring flowers. It then evolves towards stone fruit aromas such as white peach and apricot, underscored by notes of lemon flesh and a subtle touch of cedar.
Palate
Full-bodied and remarkably intense, the palate offers a delicate, round and voluptuous texture. It reveals subtle notes of citrus and candied lemon, carried by a refreshing acidity that perfectly balances the whole. The finish stands out for its length and refinement.
Food and wine pairing
This wine will pair wonderfully with seafood dishes such as Provençal-style sea bream or salmon paupiettes. It will also enhance poultry in creamy sauce, cold asparagus with mousseline sauce, foie gras, or a lemon tart for dessert.
Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve the Condrieu "Villa Pontciana" 2022 at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed until around 2039.
Rhône excellence from François Villard
The estate
A former chef with a passion for wine, François Villard planted his first vines in 1989, marking the creation of his estate in Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, France, in the Rhône Valley. Still at the helm of the estate today, he oversees 40 hectares of self-cultivated vineyards, certified organic. Renowned for his hands-off approach and deep respect for the terroir, François Villard has established himself as an emblematic figure of the region, producing wines of great elegance that grace the finest gourmet tables.
The vineyard
The Condrieu "Villa Pontciana" cuvée comes from the Poncins lieu-dit, the very first plot acquired by the winemaker at the start of his career. The vines, around fifty years old, thrive on mica-rich granite soils typical of the appellation. This exceptional terroir, worked by hand in strict accordance with organic farming principles, gives the wine mineral precision and a unique identity.
Winemaking and aging
True to the estate's philosophy, winemaking is carried out with minimal intervention, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. The Villa Pontciana 2022 is aged for ten months on fine lees, without any racking, to bring richness and complexity. The wine rests in oak barrels, 30% new and 70% used, before being bottled without sterile filtration.
Grape variety
100% Viognier.
