Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru "Baudes" 2023 Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Colour
This red wine from France reveals a vibrant, lively colour. Its ruby hue, of great clarity, shines with remarkable brightness.
Nose
Displaying great complexity, the bouquet opens with floral notes of violet and intense aromas of black cherry. With aeration, subtle hints of undergrowth and humus emerge, accompanied by delicate nuances of truffle and game.
Palate
The palate stands out for its delicacy and elegance, distinctly feminine in character. The tannins, silky in texture, support a perfectly balanced mid-palate where concentrated flavours of red fruit come to the fore. Bright acidity brings freshness, extending the pleasure towards a lingering finish with accents of candied fruit and kirsch liqueur.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with flavourful meats such as duck, feathered game or venison, particularly when served with mushrooms. It also enhances roasted veal, poultry in cream sauce, or, more adventurously, delicate fish such as salmon or trout. Soft-rind cheeses are also an excellent choice.
Service and storage
With remarkable ageing potential, this Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru "Baudes" 2023 requires a few years of patience in the cellar to open up fully. It will be ready to enjoy at its peak in around ten years' time and will continue to evolve favourably, drinking well until around 2048.
The authentic, refined expression of a Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1880 at the heart of Beaune, Maison Joseph Drouhin is an essential institution in Burgundy. Now led by the fourth generation, with Frédéric Drouhin as Chairman of the Executive Board, the estate oversees a vast domaine of around 103 hectares spread across 90 appellations. A pioneer in environmental practices, the estate is entirely certified organic and biodynamic. Always favouring quality over quantity, the family is committed to producing wines that faithfully reflect the mosaic of Burgundy's terroirs, offering natural responses to the challenges of the vine.
The vineyard
Located just below the famous Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares, the Baudes climat benefits from a gentle east-facing exposure within the Chambolle-Musigny appellation. The vines flourish on complex soils of Jurassic origin, combining limestone sediments, clay and iron. The vineyard is managed with a high planting density, encouraging deep rooting. Soil work is carried out by horse-drawn ploughing, complemented by natural grass cover, in order to preserve the biodiversity and vitality of this terroir.
The vintage
2023 was marked by remarkable generosity and warmth. Following a dry winter offset by spring rains, the growing cycle benefited from mild conditions. July and August, particularly hot and sunny, favoured rapid and optimal ripening of the berries, despite a slight degree of water stress. Harvesting began early, at the end of August, allowing grapes to be picked at exceptional ripeness and in perfect health.
Winemaking and ageing
The production of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru "Baudes" 2023 favours natural methods, with fermentation initiated by indigenous yeasts and the use of 20 to 50% whole clusters. Work in small open vats is accompanied by manual punching down and pumping over. After careful vertical pressing, the wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in oak barrels, around a quarter of which are new. The wood, selected on the tree, was air-dried for three years to ensure tannins of great finesse.
