Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte 2023

Deep, finely spicy, ripe-fruited, with a cool, stony undertone, exotic fruits and citrus notes; fuller palate, round, rich, ripe fruit, countered by good acidity, a phenolic, saline finish. Brilliantly done, a lot of wine for the money.

A touch of honey and honeycomb on the nose, some caramel, green herbs, apple and white stone fruit. Nice weight on the palate, this has some density and structure with a slightly honeyed core. Mouthwatering creamy peach with salinity, a touch of graphite and wet stones that lingers on the finish. A touch of bitterness too, but this has excellent energy and harmony with movement, subtle power and a long finish. Friendly and easy to approach. Ageing 50% new oak.

Honeysuckle, tangerine, mango, citrus rind, and lemongrass notes dominate the nose. On the palate, the wine is vibrant, fresh, and refreshing with a nice display of citrus and floral notes on the finish. The wine is a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon, 14% ABV. Drink from 2025–2034. 93 pts.

80% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Sémillon. Delicate bouquet, pomelo, grapefruit and lemongrass. On the complex palate, taut with a peppery extract, medium-bodied. Focused finish with citrus, a subtle chalky note and tarragon. Top value from Pessac-Léognan.

A little more gunsmoke and slate than the Hauts de Smith, with a structure and salinity that take you to a more serious level, still with the easy pleasure of ripe citrus and pear fruits. Excellent quality, 36 hl/ha yields.
