Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er cru 2024 by Louis Latour
Tasting notes
Colour
True to the style of the cuvée, this white wine reveals a clear, luminous colour, generally ranging from yellow to pale gold.
Nose
The bouquet shows beautiful complexity, combining white floral scents such as acacia and honeysuckle with stone fruit aromas such as apricot. Subtle vanilla notes, inherited from its ageing, complete the picture.
Palate
On the palate, this wine stands out for its ample, fresh and sappy texture. Fruity and floral flavours intertwine harmoniously with touches of vanilla, hazelnut and honey, stretching into a remarkably persistent finish.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with shellfish or delicate white fish such as skate. It will also elevate a platter of fine charcuterie or pressed cheeses such as Reblochon.
Serving and cellaring
With fine ageing potential, this Pouilly-Fuissé 1er cru 2024 can be enjoyed in its youth while developing favourably in the cellar until around 2029.
The Richness and Complexity of a Great White Pouilly-Fuissé by Louis Latour
The estate
Founded in 1797 in Beaune, the House of Louis Latour is a true institution in Burgundy. Descended from a line of winegrowers and coopers whose first vines were acquired in 1731, this négociant house and heritage estate has remained strictly family-owned and independent for twelve generations. Today led by Florent Latour, the estate looks after 50 hectares of vines, including the largest surface area of grands crus in the Côte d'Or. A pioneer in sustainable viticulture, the house stands out for its own cooperage, its environmental commitment and its determination to preserve the genetic diversity of Burgundy grape varieties.
The vineyard
Located in southern Burgundy, in the heart of the Mâconnais, the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation rests on exceptional terroirs. The vines dedicated to this cuvée, around 35 years old, thrive on soils made up of limestone and heavy clay. This distinctive terroir, harvested exclusively by hand, gives the wine an ample structure, a generous water reserve and a characteristic minerality.
Winemaking and ageing
After hand harvesting, the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er cru 2024 is vinified traditionally in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, including a full malolactic fermentation to bring roundness. Ageing lasts 8 to 10 months. To preserve the purity of the fruit while adding complexity, 10 to 15% of the wine is aged in new French oak barrels from the house's own cooperage, while the remainder rests in stainless steel tanks.
